Man that is ausome the season opens tommorrow here and I cannot go because we are hosting a St. jude childrens Hospital Trail ride on our farm but I am going Sunday for sure. I love turkey hunting it is the only hunting I do please post some pics if get that big Jelly neck in the photo. Man that is cool you got me all pumped up and ready to go I think it is great that fellow busse lovers love to turkey hunt.

Wow! Nice.

You now when the season opens those turkeys will be no where to be seen. Always seems to work that way.

Wow, that is a lot of nice and fat turkeys  Where abouts is that place? Never tried turkey hunting before. I am sure my side by side 12Gauge Merkel would love to take a shot at those.

Anybody having any luck????

Just got back from west Texas, but unfortunately hit it just a tad early. There were just a few birds starting to get active...but another week and I think it would have been perfect. (It's almost 400 miles, so we just have to plan ahead and hope for the best )

I did get to bag one Tom, and it was a very memorable one --- had to work him away from a hen, off a ridge, and across a draw. He was VERY reluctant to leave her, but finally (after 30-40 minutes of intense calling) strutted out into an opening at 50 yards. He shouldn't have... He's in the smoker now, for supper tonight. :)

so is it shotgun only out there? in the spring it is out here. in the fall you can use rifle and bow as well as shotgun.
my fave is stickin' em while i'm bowhunting deer... a tasty little bonus!:D

I'm not going to get to go for another two weeks. TWO WEEKS!!!!

Well, some guys shoot them with rifles, but there's no real sport in that... The trick is trying to get them within 40 or so yards for the shotgun.

Some guys hunt them out of stands over feeders, that's perfectly legal here, but again, that takes the sport and fun out of it.

There's just nothing like seeing an old longbeard come struting in, gobbling and carrying on -- especially when the sun hits them just right and you can see every color in the rainbow. For us the spring hunt is altogether different than the fall hunt, where you just nail them as you wait for deer. If you've never tried it, it's absolutely one of the best (as far as fun and challenging) hunts you can have

In the bottom pic, that's an Active Duty LE in the grass beside the 870.

I have never been turkey hunting. I have always heard they are a very cagey game bird. Hard to hunt with a shotgun. Looks like fun.

Found a pic of the triple-bearded bird I shot.

Also that bird (above) with the box call beside him was double bearded.

If you're looking to get into turkey hunting on the cheap, Dick's has a hunter's combo on sale. Comes with two barrels (even though the ad says 22" OR 28"), camo finish, red-dot scope (though I prefer the fiber optic sights). I scanned this for someone else recently, so here you go...
