Just curious if anyone is using digestive enzymes to stop indigestion and if so what brand is preferred. They seem to work for me but still in the testing stage. So far results have exceeded all expectations.

Took them when I was in Africa, helped a lot with the different diet and water(used nice british berkely style ceramic water filter, but still affected most people at least a bit, while I did fine).

Can't remember what brand I used though. Probably actually gonna pick some up today though, or some yogurt, as running a course of antibiotics for a sinus infection and need to help replace those that get killed by the drugs.

Are you regularly de-stressing? Do you meditate or pray regularly? Do you workout 3X or more a week, including cardiovascularly? Do you have a GOOD diet, meaning lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, quality water and/or juices, complex carbohydrates (i.e., no white sugar, bread, pasta, etc.), taking medications (pharmaceuticals) regularly, using a balanced Omega-6/Omega-3 oil if you use oil as a condiment or to cook with, reduced animal products for less sulfur containing a.a.'s and saturated fats, etc., etc.? First explore your lifestyle. Along the way, least invasive is best, so if you do take something, try Sweetish Bitters or even Jaegermeister if you have no problems with ETOH. Dan

Thanks Drdan,

I'm following all of the above pretty much exactly as delineated.

I have changed one thing and that is I now cook with 100% pure (virgin coconut oil) and try to eat some raw coconut at least once every other day.I buy the VCO direct from the site below and have also ordered the OmegaZyme caps.

You might want to use a more balanced oil. Blend virgin olive oil (low in alpha-linolenic [Omega-3] acid) with either linseed, canola or non refined soy, which are all high in alpha-linoleic acid [Omega-6]. I live in Italy, so I have a proclivity toward Italian virgins. Don't buy into the coconut oil hype too much which might be currently rampant in the U.S. There's no substitute for a healthy lifestyle. I'd stick to a low fat diet, and use the oil preferably as a condiment, placing it in your food AFTER it is cooked so as not to denature the oil. If I had similiar woes, I'd most likely first reflect on my lifestyle, and try to improve it as much as possible. I would then probably try Sweetish Bitters, or some sort of analogous product. If within a short period of time you don't see a significant improvement, go to your family physician, get a check up and basic labs tests, and perhaps even a recommendation to have diagnostics performed by a gastroenterologist. Difficult to get more specific without a lot more imput, and it's not really appropriate to collect that here, just as it's not appropriate to get prescriptions of your favorite abused medications on the wastelands of the internet...! In the interim, swing that khukuri! Best wishes: Dan

I stopped indigestion by doing the following:

Drinking more than 8 cups of water daily - more like 12-13
Sleeping on an incline (head slightly higher)
Stopped overeating - ie. actually left room for desert ;)

I haven't solved all my eating issues - I still eat late, eat sporadically, don't eat right and indulge when I feel like it - but the indigestion, heartburn, GERD,...everything has gone away. I feel kinda lucky, I guess. Hope you can find what works for you.

Hello,

As an alternative you might want to try regularly eating papaya. It contains one of natures most powerful enzymes. It is powerful enough that it is probably what is used to make the drugs you speak of. Also used as the main ingredient in popular meat tenderizers

I agree with a lot of the things that were said above. If you lead a healthy lifestyle (proper diet, regular exercise, drink plenty of water, take a multivitamin, etc.) then you will have fewer health problems. Taking good care of yourself becomes especially important the older you get.

I'm beginning to sound like my mother! :) :D

The tip on the bitters sounded good so I ordered a bottle of Maria Treben's Swedish Bitters from here:

From the description it'll help with everything from Dogbite to tinnitus to indigestion. Darn good stuff. Hey Uncle Bill better get'cha some of this for the entire family.

Hi GYMBOOEE; I feel that it is especially important to develop healthy habits when very young so that you may fully enjoy life, and also your health when you are older and even very old. You would be more apt to guide your children and friends in following suit.

jorja boi; the papain is certainly a good choice. In Polynesia, and many Southeast Asian countries, chicken and other meats are cooked with the papaya. You can cut even stringy pieces of "what kind of meat is this" with a fork with no effort whatsoever. And it does taste good. Adolph's (sp.?) and other meat tenderizers use it, but fresh is better! Bromelain found in pineapples has an analagous proteolytic action; there are many other natural proteases as well.

pendentive; I think you did well to drink lots of good quality water, and avoid overeating. You might consider not eating anything after 18;00, eat 5 or 6 SMALL meals during the day instead of sporadically, make small but positve changes in your diet gradually, and indulge only on very special occasions. The condition is the tip of the iceberg--you might want to remove the CAUSE of it instead of masking it. If one were to have a hacking cough and is a smoker, it would probably not be prudent to seek a medication, natural or otherwise, in which to ensconce the symptomatology. Indeed, even iatrogenesis may be a factor--check any meds you might be taking. Obviously, not sleeping in an inclined position is hardly the CAUSE of indigestion, and doing so is merely palliative in nature. Listen to your body; it has an amazing wisdom resident within...
