do i know you from the plainsmans cabin? if so , once you posted a picture of some japanese knife that looked like a butcher knife . looked so sharp that it was scary. what was it called? oh, and hello every one i think this is my first post. i have just accuired the coolest WWII from HI. have two others on the way. they sure beat my other junk khuk's.

I post occasionally in Plainsmans, but I haven't been able to post a picture since the birth of the internet! It may have been My razor-sharp wit, and cutting insight you remember.:)
 
I have that khuk. Bought it second hand, so not sure of it's provenance.

Mine came in a brass-bound, polished wooden scabbard (no frog). It's a decent enough blade, though it falls short of any HI khukhuri.

I'd say if you take an average village made khuk
& shine it up--
there you are.
Cannot recall if it was edge-hardened or not.
Can't recall if the buttcap is peened or nailed on.
Mine had several small forge-folds evident;
one would concern me slightly until tested.
Not up to HI blem standards.
Bought it as a comparison,
not a user.
Haven't done much with mine to test it.
So I can't really say anything about it's durability in use.
 
Well, I won this Khukuri for $33 delivered, and have to say that I'm pretty happy with it for the price. Rather delicate compared to any of my HI khuks, but it does have some positive attributes.

Before I go on, I have a question. I feel, somehow, that it's wrong to discuss non-HI khukuris here (though antiques are OK). Is it rude of me or disrespectful to HI and Uncle Bill to post my observations about a "competitor's" offerings, especially if I have something nice to say?

My $.02 worth is that I think it bad form to bring in discussion of competitors products to a dedicated forum like HI. It would be similar to going to Glock's web site and saying Colt products are better. Maybe they are and maybe not but why fan the flames?

As moderators, I'm sure Rusty or Bill can comment on what they prefer. It IS HI's forum after all.
