I gang! I just got a Dozier folder :) and when this D2 needs a sharpening, I'm going to put an Emerson edge on her.
Does anyone do this with other than Emerson knives?

Do you mean your going to just sharpen one side until you have a chisel edge?

If so grab a sandwich, last time I sharpened D2 it was a long process. I can't even start to think how long it is going to take to bring a V edge to a chisel edge with D2.

Oh, and no, I have never done it. Never really thought about it actually, maybe I should give it a go.

dr.- Yep!
I have good luck with D2 on water stones and now I have a belt grinder and a new buffer.

Sounds interesting. Ive especially considered doing it to my CQC-6K but wasnt sure how it would turn out. Love the ease of sharpening.

Thanks, gang.
I put an Emerson Edge on the inexpensive folder that I have clipped to my Sun visor in my truck and that gave me the idea to do this to other knives that I own. Not ALL of them tho.
Ray- I think I'll stick with a LH chisel but we'll see. Good question.

Could you clarify your specific definition of right or left handed chisel?

Do you consider EKIs right or left ?

Thx.

Emerson's are ground with a left handed grind. Where as you are cutting away from you the sharpened side is facing up.

Seriously dude, why?

That D2 will hold an edge for a long time and can be maintained with a simple stropping.

If it aint broke why 'fix' it?

Marks- I said WHEN the edge dulls. That could be like 10 years from now, dood. Reeeeelax... :p

You should never have to reprofile that edge brutha. D2 is very easy to touch up I find, esp with the thin edge Dozier puts on the knife.

Yeah, I have to say, while I have no problem with EKI's steel choice--so easy to touch up and bring back to screaming sharp--BM's D2, and D2 in general is excellent stuff. It's tough, v. good edge retention, and demands just enough care to make things fun. I have many carbon steel blades, so applying oil, etc... is an accepted and even welcomed ritual.
