OT- Eyeglass repair?

So I'm losing my glasses to a stress fracture in the metal. Anybody have any good repair tips? If I used the classic scotch tape or even duct tape it might reveal my secret, nerdy identity. Is this a JB Weld problem? Solder? No idea what kind of cheap pot metal it is, but nothing too fancy (no Titanium or NiTiNOL). Fairly small piece - maybe 2mm by 1 mm flat bar, cracked 2/3 of the way through. Next good bend will probably finish the job.

A web search pulled up lots of sites selling tiny screwdrivers. One site suggested superglue, along with the useful tip to seek medical attention if you get it in your mouth or eye.

I have a full compliment of khuks available to make the repair - everything from a Foxy down to a beautiful pseudo-dhankuta with plenty in between. :D

mmmmmmmmmmm............

maybe take it to a real jeweler for solderiing/brazing? price?

wrap it (tight & close) with the finest wire you can find (thread size?)
then coat/impregnate with methacrylate or epoxy?
maybe a splint wire added across the weak area under the serving/wire-wrap.

Once broken, use a very fine tube to splint around the break
with epoxy inside?

Go to a model plane or train hobby shop & ask for ideas?

I always thought removing the lenses and taping them to your brow would be quite stylish and have that "je ne sais quoi" quality about it.

Where's the stress fracture? Is it at the nosepiece or the hinged part?

Classic fix short of replacing the frame is silver soldering the metal. Unfortunately, most eye glass frame are made of pot metal, so this will work OK but won't look too good. I'd try that first anyway.

Good luck.

Believe it or not I do this as an everyday job! I can solder it together no sweat, but I don't know where you are at.

If you can spare them, mail them to me with return shipping and I'll fix them gratis. Email me for my mailing address.

i'm an alien with a background in the developement of personal energy weapons whose ftl passenger ship crashed (i SWEAR i didn't know the e-pistol was loaded!) and i and the 3,012 other survivors are awaiting pickup by the galactic rescue service. they'll be here in 2 or 3 centuries, so i've devoted my efforts to accumulating little tidbits of metal fashioned into interesting shapes. especially as the others won't talk to me any more, wow! one mistake and they go on and on and on about it....ah, well , another pint of guiness, please landlord....

Are you using a laser welder?

I guess most know that I am an engraver, although the handle causes some to think I am an undertaker.

However, I can also write a complete score for a marching percusion ensemble performance, should anyone ever need such a thing. I specialize in simulating the style of the great DCI drum lines of the 80's.

If you have to ask, you probably don't need one! ;)

BTW. It looks as if my wife may be carrying twins this time! :D

We won't know until we get up to NY and get an ultrasound.

I progressed from being a lowly Big Dumb Assed kid to an accomplished automatic screw machine mechanic with an excellent reputation over a lot of the USA. Also known as a talented Leathercrafter, Woodcarver, Drum Maker, Flute Maker, Knife Maker and talented at many ndn craft's.
People also say that I'm quite a good flautist.:)

But mostly I'm just still a Big Dumb Assed Kid that's still learning.:grumpy:  :p ;)

I wish. My boss just got a laser welder for the other location so he could do titanium repairs. I have to send the titanium frames to him.

I use an oxy-acetaline jewler's torch with a super high-temp solder made of who knows what.

My last business venture, crucifix shaped lollypops called "Sweet Jeesis" didn't catch on. I thought they would be big sellers around Easter, but the only ones who bought any was the CIA who used them as anal suppositories to extract information from Muslims.

 Amazing!

Actually, I'm considering Bruise's suggestion. I will have a Pan Knife!!!! Wait, wrong suggestion. Anyway, a little frapping may be in order. The catch - fly tying equipment! The little thread bobbins let you work neatly in tight spaces with very fine thread (sorry Bruise, no quarter inch manilla hemp for this job.) Finish the thread with a very even coat of epoxy, and the repair might be very serviceable.

Still considering other offers, though, including Steve's generous services, the alien's technology, and Ben's sweets (Sweet Jesus! I can't see, but somehow my whole outlook has changed!) Let the thread hijack continue! Now wasn't there a bear around here somewhere.......
