OT? For the historians...ARMIES OF INDIA SIKH GURKHA

This fellow (battletools) has done a great job putting these old and difficult to find books in a very readable CD. He's truly dedicated to the subject and is very interested in kukris and their place in history. He has quite a list of titles available and sells them directly for $10 each plus shipping from the UK.

Hi John,

I looked over the site and ordered the CD. I looked sample pages that were scanned and was interested to see the ranking system they had for troops in those days. Once I get the cd, I'll post on it and let you guys know.

Arvind

P.S. Thanks Kismet for the link.

"Ranking system"

In 1943, it was:

Rifleman
Lance Naik (PFC/Lance Corporal)
Naik (Corporal)
Havildar (Sgt.)
Havildar Major (Sgt. Major)

Jemadar (roughly Lt.)
Subadar (roughly Captain)
Subadar Major (roughly Major)

This is in addition to British officers

Per "A Conecticutt Yankee in the 8th Gurkha Rifles," Scott Gilmore, Brassey's, 1995, at p. 99.
