Anyone ever had to give their pets up for adoption? I just returned from a place called MaxFund. Due to my upcoming active duty and deployment, I had to find a home for 2 of my cats. One, I've had for almost 14 years, she's only a year younger than my daughter. The other, I've had for 6 years, she rode with me in my truck while I was still an Over-the-road driver. I felt as if I'd abandoned a couple of my kids. That was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. But, I got a guarantee that they would NOT be, ever, put to sleep, unless their health made that the only option. Damn, I already miss them, and I've only been home for an hour. This may sound strange, but I'm asking for prayers that they find good loving homes, and soon. This SUCKS, like the worlds largest vacuum cleaner. Damn it, think I'll get drunk, while finishing my packing.

I know what you mean. We recently lost our Buster, a wonderful dog to liver disease while on a trip. The vets couldn't save him, and there is a big hole in our hearts. Animals bring out something in our nature that's important.

My cat of nine years was deliberately run over by the scum family living next door. San Bernardino Ca.

I felt the same way when when I lost my dog a few years ago.
Good luck and God Speed.

Been there and had to do that...tough thing to do and nothing to say to help. Smoke for their finding a great new family to train.

.

Bill I feel for you. Been there.

I don't know what to tell you. What worked for me on deployment might not for you.

We all have to find a way to deal with it.

I say it again, good luck and God bless.

Good luck Bill. You are a good person for making sure that they will have a good place to go. I understand the saddness that you are feeling. Some good thoughts heading your way from Atlanta.

They're lower than scum. Even lower than whale $HIT!!!!
I have 3 kittens, and even though they just "tolorate" me, they always make my day. :)

Bill, it takes a special kind of animal lover to adopt older pets. I'm sure they'll find a great home.
God Speed to you. Come home safely, and thank you for your service.

I've been through this myself. When I got back, the person I'd given the pet to was unwilling to give it back. As I'd given the pet away without the expectation of returning I didn't have the right to be angry with her. I was angry nonetheless. Later, it occurred to me that she was keeping the pet because she loved it as much as I did. This helped a little...but not much. You have my sympathy. I could say more but it would be meaningless.

Get drunk. It's not a long term solution but sometimes the short term solution is the only one available.

Really feel for you, but I got to go now or these new jeans won't be near enough protection from two 11 month old's claws. I've ( according to them ) got some catching up on their pampering and merely being gone doesn't cut me any slack with them.

Bill/Heavy Haul,

That is so sad. Of all my many animals- 12 goats, 7 ducks, 25 chickens 5 dogs, one donkey- my 2 kitties I love the most. I wish to H-E- double toothpick you didn't live on the other side of the country from me cause I would have kept them for you! :(

Bill , I don't know the name of it off the top of my head but there is a Org. that gets your cats fostered and it was set up for GI's .
Hopefully this info is not too late. Well I’ve had to put way too many pets to sleep I can not imagine how bad it feels to have to give one up.
I'll try and find a link, but it was just something I got half of on the TV.

I think the place you're thinking of was Operation Noble Foster. Tried them, but had no luck. Maybe if I'd had more time.
The place I put them in called me today. They had their vet check them out, nose to tail. The vet wanted to ask me some questions. First question was, "Are you sure about the ages of these two?". Second question after I said yes, was, "What have you been feeding them?".
He said that the cat, Whiskers, who is almost 14 years old, looks to be only 10, and is slightly over weight, but is in otherwise excelent health. The other cat, Why kitty, who is almost 6 years old, is in excelent health also, and looks to be only 4. They've also already got 4 families looking at adopting both. But they have to wait the 2 week quarantine period before they will release them for adoption.

Made my day!!!!!
Oh yeah, the only food they were ever fed was IAMS dry cat food.

Being a soldier is certainly a sacrifice on so many levels. People, pets, family, things that you must leave behind.

A pet of 14 years! That would really hurt!

Thanks for being there for us.

Thanks for all your sacrifices.

Wish there was something more I could say or do.
