OT: geography

92%

not bad, I guess.....could do better...

That was fun and informative. Though I didn't 'need' the information that I was a dunce!

46 perfect out of 50. 92%, avg error 14 mi, 409 seconds (got interrupted).

I think the first time I did this I got an 88%, but after it being posted in a few places my score got up to 98% 1 mile average off (wyoming with no direct referance)

94%, 24 miles, 419 seconds. You caught me on a sober night.

This is probably the first time that a childhood spent in New England paid off for me, other than when the subject of how "Worcester" is pronounced comes up.

I was perfect until Alaska. :(

68%, avg error of 99 miles, 288 sec. A handful of errors aside that were result of my misclicks (you know, when country is already marked red and my mouse slipped so i misplaced it again -does that count towards errors ?) know next to nothing abut US geography, few major states aside.

I'm sure Americans will get a good laugh out of this but i used to think Vermont was located somewhere on the left (western) side of the Great Lakes (in north Minnesota), that Alabama is where Tennessee and Kentucky are and that Tennessee is right in the middle of Missouri. Quite some of those i got right only because the piece fit the puzzle. Oh well :D

The typical U.S. resident knows next to nothing about U.S. geography -- and far less than that about the rest of the world.

Quick show of hands: where is Yorkshire? Hainan Island? Paraguay?

(He asked, with the arrogance of a geography minor. )

I'm 2 for 3 on your test....do I still fail?

(don't know nuthin bout Hainin Islands)

One, singular island. It was in the news for days a couple of yarns ago.

And Dan, you are not typical. You already know where Nepal is. ;)

Geography In the News: What Scandinavian country just celebrated its independence and why?

88%, average error 23miles, 397 sec (I was interrupted, but I don't know if the tme matters)

Wow, I should certainly be able to do better than 88%! 23 miles doesn't sound like much of an error, but with the map and neighboring states right there...grrr!

I'll do better! Give me Eastern Europe next!

Hainan, where the US spy plane had to make an emergency landing not that long ago. I admit, i cheated a bit - couldn't remember where i heard that darn name, i knew it was in Pacific and had something to do with either China or Japan. When i found the full name of "Hainan, China" i also remembered that airplane mishap immediately.

2.5/3, sort of :) I always thought that Nunivak was the epitome of geographic obscurity. Forget Vanuatu, Svalbard or Togo, if you can point out Nunivak on the map in the middle of the night you can pride yourself with your knowledge of geography. I may not be good with US states but have very little problems with world geography (countries), i liked geography when i was a kid (and could outdo any of those "child prodigies" they show on TV these days, stupid chumps know where Armenia is and their parents think they've bred a frickin Einstein  ), until my teachers did their best to turn me away from geography. Stupid teachers turning kids away from things they are interested in ... inepts like those two broads shouldn't have been teachers inthe first place :grumpy:
