Does anyone have this tiny little thing? What are your impressions?

Ive been looking at it and it seems like a handy size for hunting/survival. Is it too small to do any work?

Hollowdweller, I seem to remember you having one of these...

Please, nobody tell me just to get a khukuri! :p

My first one I broke. Chipped the lower part of the cutting edge off on some oak. It cuts great though. Maybe somewhere in between a pen knife and a BAS. Great for backpacking.

GB sent me a new one. It's as good as the other but I haven't had a chance to really test it. It's great for backpacking. However where weight is not an issue go for something bigger.

Another option that is longer, only 3oz heavier and double edged is one of these:

I really love this little double bit. Really light but dangerously sharp.

However for all but the really big stuff if weight is not a problem get a 17" Baby Ganga Ram

I had one...

I brought it home and had a closer look at it and returned it a couple of days later. (I never chopped anything with it though) It's really small. I figured I'd be able to chop just as well with a 15" AK. The AK is a little heavier and bulkier to pack though.

I guess the axe sorta looks like a child's tomahawk. Not a bad tool, just that I was hoping it would be a little bigger. Probably easy to carry on long trips though.

Good quality, and came with a good edge out of the sheath. The next size up are the small forest axe and the hunter's axe.

I have one and it is made better then any other ax I have ever seen! Top quality! I have not tested mine yet but will soon!

Yes, the wee pocket hatchet is more expensive due to the labor/difficulty of forging such a tiny eye on the head.

Hollowdweller?

Very nice thread. I agree completely. The edges on the Ragnar's double-bit belt axe STAY intimidating; the weight disappears when you carry it.

Can you post a picture of the sheath you have for it?

I took mine out to the woods. The tasks I used it for went by so quickly, I started making work just to use it. I didn't see much difference in the edges' efficacy.

I'll try this weekend. I need to make a bigger one it was a little tight and cut the one side of it about halfway, but it is still useable.

Thanks,

The main reason I was interested in the mini was that its small size would be easy to slide into a pack or pouch. Ive looked at both the nessmuks and was a hairs breadth away from buying a reeves. I decided to go with an axe with a hammer poll because I figured it would be more useful, and I will be using it while hunting and processing deer. I bought a GB wildlife hatchet from treeman knives last night. They had the best price, and I was suprised to find that they were located practically down the road! Should be here tomorrow.

I have a little loop on the back of my pack with some of the velcro strapping stuff on it. I just run it through the belt loop on a khuk sheath or around the handle under the head on my GB or my Nessmuk and it never comes off.

Let me know how you like the wildlife. I have the mini and also a GB hunters model.

Have you ever had a hatchet go right trough your face? Not a glancing blow, but a full on shot, deep into your forehead? Deep enough so you can shake your head and the hatchet doesn't fall out? Its the strangest feeling. Because just after the hatchet goes in, and before there's any pain, you can feel a gentle puff of cool air on your brain. It feels good. But since its the only way to get that feeling, I try not to get too hung up on it.
