Hey guys,

i'd really, super appreciate any advice on choosing a gun club. some of these very rare organizations are private. i would have to buy a "share", kinda like a private golf club. they aren't cheap either, or at least in my opinion.

any advice? going out to the wilderness to shoot isn't really an option at this point.

thanks guys. sorry about the way off topic.

It's very different around here. Most ranges are public and membership buys unlimited access to the range. One of the things that I consider is the lighting on their indoor range. Since I shoot pistols and my eyes (along with the rest of me) are getting old that is very important. Another consideration is the ventalation. If you leave the range with a sweet taste in your mouth that is probably lead. Not a good thing. The last thing that I can think of is access. Is it close by? Is it open when you would use it and can you bring a friend?

Good luck choosing one,

David?

Not being facetious, but could you ask the local police? They have to know of the existence of such clubs, and may have recommendations, or preferences. Canada is so much different than the U.S. in this regard, I'd have no other idea.

justathought.

i honestly am losing my temper and experiencing overall frustration with this.
any decent range seems to be at a minimum 45 min - 1 hour drive.

unless i am mistaken, there is only one store that sells hand guns in Canada's largest city.

i spent a whole lotta money and waited 6 months to get my license, not to mention the class time, 2 written tests and 2 practical tests, only to be thwarted now?? all i want to do is learn some target shooting with a single shot 22 cal rifle.

i'm going to go and take a nap now.

Good luck to ya, Dave. You'll get something figured out.

In my ignorant youth, I once drove into Canada with a Ruger .22 pistol in my trunk. I didn't realize it was a felony on par with bank robbery.

I'd find it hard to join any organization that acts like a Golf Course Club and charges 'shares'.

Dave,

I was under the impression that only the military and Mounties in Canada could have handguns(maybe some private security also?). Anyway, I also live in a metropolis and have to drive 30 minutes to just under an hour to shoot. Actually, I am also a member of one club that is over 2 hours away. I hardly ever get out anymore, but when I do it takes planning and I expect to spend the whole day.

Have you considered getting an airgun to shoot inside your home for practice?

Looks like the anti-gunners in Canada have succeeded in making gun ownership so expensive and onerous that many people are frustrated.

Again, good luck.

If you ever make a trip to the Land of the free, let us know ahead of time and maybe some of us can take you shooting.;)

It's a real drag when I want to shoot. I have to drive 2 1/2 minutes outside town. Sorry. On the other hand, I have to drive an hour to find a supermarket... priorities.

thanks guys, some clubs are now coming out of the wood work and i've got quite a bit of homework to do! in the meantime, here is an article on gun ownership in Toronto and what I have to live with.

Toronto Gun Ownership

I've been to Canada a few times and it is a beautiful country - in the summer at least. However, A-holes like Mr. Miller make me want to avoid your country as much as possible. He realizes of course that he who controls the guns, controls the "gold"; and he who controls the gold, makes the rules. I give him a B+ in dictatorship 101.

Hdwrlover,

I see from your post your home is listed as Commiefornia. I know how you feel,; I lived there for many years. Dave Hahn may feel the same way about Canada sometimes.
Got to make the best of it. Canada is a beautiful country.
