On another forum, someone posted a link to an odd story from TechCentralStation. Here's an excerpt:
Hired Guns

A consortium of mercenary groups has made the UN a deceptively simple proposal: give us $200 million, and we'll help bring an end to the war in the Congo.
...
The companies say they'll employ for their rapid reaction force 475 to 1200 British-trained Gurkha fighters from Nepal -- guys with a seriously bad-ass reputation. But it's unclear who would command the mercenaries. And what happens, Singer asks in the latest issue of Policy Review, if corporate interests and humanitarian interests begin to divide?

It's an interesting article, and something I wish the UN would consider. Any bets on how many hours it would take from the time the Gurkhas hit the ground until the fighting stops? ;)

Guys,
Ran into a Merc forum awhile back, don't remember how I found it! They advertised,Gurkas for hire, tell us what you need! For sevents, personal protection OR we can supply a small army with equipment!
Thought it was interesting!
THE SAINT

Guys,

Take this with a grain, no a large bag of rock, salt.

I know more than a little bit about a couple of the instances. Liberia 96 there was one Mi-8 (or17) helo supporting the transshipping in Sierra Leone to/from Liberia and a former U.S. SF officer. They just helped with “comfort stuff”. Total from these guys was less than a squad. It was USMC, then SOCOM, then back to USMC that secured the embassy.

As far as securing NASA launches is U.S. mil that does the shuttle launches. All three services with fixed wing assets fly those and no non-DOD aircraft close. Maybe the non-launch window fence sweep?

A couple of thousand Gorkhas can secure their area but the country is too large and the scumbags will just move to other areas.

S/F, Mike
