Can someone point a newbie to a counterpart of Bladeforums, but for hand guns? I just applied for my permits, and am seeking sound advice on a few different options.
What I'm really looking for is some sort of newbie's buying guide that talks about the pros and cons of calibers, actions, brands, designs, idosyncracies of different makes, and other nuances that might seem like nothing at first, but become so very much more important when you live with the decision for a while.
For instance, if someone here were buying a gentleman's pocket knife for the first time, there are many different choices one could make, and each has its own attributes. (Chris Reeve, William Henry, Koji Hara, Bob Terzuola... you get the point) I want to educate myself on the nuances, so that I utilize the salesperson's time effectively. I view it as my responsibility to educate myself before taking someone's time, so that I'm able to ask intelligent questions.
Also, any additional information more than I already have on basics like safety, care, and legal technicalities, can't hurt.
