Hey Y'all,

We did this on another forum a while back and I thought I might suggest it here since we have such a diverse and international clientele.

What we did on the other forum was everybody made up a mix CD of some tunes they wanted to share with everyone else and then made copies for everyone who signs up. We kept it down to 10 people so we wouldn't have to make a huge amount of copies. So basically each person makes X amount of CD's and then receives X amount of cd's back

My impressions of the time we tried it before were favorable. A few discs were mainly commercial stuff, but most were filled with strange and esoteric gems that I still enjoy listening to today.

Would anyone be interested? The key would be none of us could "F" around sending them all out and not reciprocate in a timely manner.

We could also convert to mp3 and either mail em' or post them for downloading. It might be easier and less expensive that way.

me = cheap = tone deaf

That's a thought. Unfortunately at least for me due to the poor phone lines on the hollow it takes me about 25 minutes to download one 5 minute song on MP3.

Hollow, I still intend to send you a tape of esoteric records...is there anyway you can turn that to CD's? I can't do it here.

Nope. I wish I could. I have so much live stuff I have recorded over the years that is on cassette. I have a friend who has a friend who can. I had this tape I really treasure. It's a 1980 performance by Robert Hunter if you know who he is playing solo acoustic at Kutztown College in PA.

I have had my copy since 83 so at 21 years old I was worried about it breaking since I don't know anyone else who has a copy. My pal had his pal put it on CD. I don't know what sort of magical software he had but it got rid of the hiss and the cd actually is an improvement over the original casette.

I was just thinking about that. Unfortunatly, i'm the same guy who can't get my computer to recognize my digital camera...very unlikely it will respond to my musical attempts. Ive never even 'burned' a disk.

Come the Revolution, if it wasn't for my handloading ability, I'd be useless.

It can be done if you have an audio input on your sound card.
Is there a way to burn a CD from a cassette tape? I have a great Kenwood Stereo but don't know how to hook it up to my computer to burn discs.:( :grumpy:

Your sound card should have an "Audio In" or microphone input. I think stereo equipment outputs with those funny RCA plug things. You can get an RCA to small headphone adaptor from a computer store or Radio Shack.

Then all you need is some audio software for recording. I think quality will depend on the bells and whistles on your recording program.

I haven't actually done this though. I've done computer into tape deck though which is the opposite of the above.

There might be some difficulty in finding good recording software for free though. Maybe youse gots some connections. :)

I'll see if I have time to goof around with it later this evening.

I gotz a laptop...where's tha soundcard at?

Hmmm...

Fish heads, fish heads...
Rolly poly fish heads...
Fish heads, fish heads...
Eat 'em up yum!

I think if you rip out the F8 key with a screwdriver it's under there.
;) :) YMMV though. :D

I tried it and it seems to have worked. I used the headphone output from the stereo's CD player and a el cheapo program to record. The quality wasn't very good though but I blame it on the recording program and the long cable from the computer to the stereo. The software program wasn't a high resolution doo hickey program.

on a windows computer, there's already a recording software available. it's somewhere where they put those funny games etc. As far as I recall, it records .wav files. Worked alright for me the last time I tried.

Maybe an easier way would be to hook up a tape player to your stereo, at least for merely listening to a tape that seems to be the best option.

oh and about the Music passaround, I like the idea. it would probably be easier for me though to mail all 10(?) cds to someone in the US who passes them on, instead of paying postage for 10 international packages.

Looks like we may not have enough people either interested or technologically able to burn a mixed CD. Will give it some more time and see. :D

Then there are those like me who are interested, technologically able, but just too lazy to do it.
