The premise being that you are setting out into the wilderness for about a week or possibly more and are only allowed to take any 3 knives and any 2 tools with you (they don't all need to be GSOs, but since we are posting in here let's make at least one of them to be a GSO). You can post as many combinations and variations of whichever you prefer and feel free to state your reasons, if you so wish. The idea being that some of us (I) would like to learn from ALL of you.

Pictures and pictorial descriptions would be greatly appreciated and let's keep this to the knives which we already own and posses at hand. If you should get a new knife or tool in the next few weeks or months, please feel free to add or to subtract. Fixed blade Knives, folding knives, machetes and daggers are all considered knives while axes, saws and multitools (even if they already have a blade or blades) are categorized as tools! Only 3 of the former and 2 of the latter please.

Go!

P.S. seeing that some people rather take 3 tools and 2 knives because they really want to have an axe, by the powers vested in me by myself, I hereby decree that 2 + 3 combo is also fine (:D) but shall we also stipulate an overall weight rule?!

Not sure I'd need 3 knives .. 2 would be plenty for me, but since you put 3 here's what I'd take
Fiddleback Forge Camp Knife
GSO 5.1
GSO 4.7
Grandfors Bruk Small Forest Axe
Folding Saw
If I was to only take 2 knives it would be the Fiddleback and the 4.7

This is what I'd take for a camping trip. Hopefully I'll add a nice axe soon enough.

Thank you OKC. I like to see pictures as it gives me ideas. Fir instance, I need to get a leather protector for my GB-SFA too instead of making something up with paracord which inevitably comes loose and slides down the handle. I put 3 knives because I assumed that many would like to carry a folder (or a necker) plus 2 fixed blades. I don't have my pics set up yet in a group and will try to do so tomorrow, but for one scenario, I'd take:

A- GSO 10
B- GSO 5
C- Spyderco PM-2
D- Silky folding Saw
E- Victorinox Swiss Tool X

GSO 5.1. The only GSO I've received so far.
Busse Hellrazor BG
BK-9
Leatherman Wave
Fiskars folding saw

Don't need 3 knives but wth, gso10, 6, & 4.1. My 2 tools would be a folding saw and a fire starter...

Scenario # 1:

This is going to be quite a heavy load as far as the 5 items go, but nothing lacking in terms of seriousness of this gear set up and total confidence in tackling almost any situation. I find the saw blade prone to bending or worse, snapping with carelessness but the Swiss Tool X offers a pretty stout little backup!

I would possibly replace the PM-2 with my GSO 2.7 when I receive that one!

Have you thought about carrying just a 24-32 inch hand saw blade and just making a handle? A few bolts and wing nuts a little carving and paracord could make a larger saw to knock down larger stock.

8 oz not bad.

I've actually watched videos on how people make those, but I have not had any formal and practical training. The weight of a saw though would not be atop my heft concern because for instance the GSO 10 is definitely heftier than even those larger collapsing saws.

Another scenario: Note I wouldn't leave home without a LARGE knife, a saw and a multitool :D

Nice LT Wright machete and Forest Axe!

Thank you O.K.C. TreviTrace helped me out to source the GB-SFA

On the machete, I kept going back and forth on the Fiddleback Forge machetes as their ergonomics didn't really appeal to me till I came across the LTWT's Overland machete which was finally released before Blade. Their kydex sheath though is a bit of a sh*tshow and pricey for what it is. Better to have bought the machete for $110 w/o the kydex sheath and now LTWK offers a nicer leather one by the same maker who makes all their leather sheaths for $50. That half baked kydex sheath is $35, so I'd go with the leather one if I could do it all over again!

I really like the idea of this thread, but I'm afraid I can really only participate in the parallel dimension of my fantasy world...................... so if the OP will allow it.....

GSO 4.7
GSO 12
GSO 2.7
Leatherman Sidekick
Silky Bigboy 2000

Bro, you practically own this joint! So you can even mention a GSO 36 to add to your fantasy world arsenal should you wish to do so :D
