OK, I'm good at OT posts, bu thtis is a new one, and rather refined quesiton. has to be isuzu mechanic, as have a fun situation. Drive a 95 isuzu P'up, 2.3L EFI 4 cylinder. Need a new exhaust manifold. Problem is, this engine was only offered for one year(truck normally had 2.3 carb or 2.6 EFI). So want to find cheap option for a new manifold. Obviously, has to have O2 sensor bung, so can't use most of the offerings out there for 2.3 carb'd engines. But don't want to get a 2.6 manifold and find out it won't fit. So in a quandry.

Yes, I've already called my normal import salvage yard, and they don't have one. Going to call another yard, and have parts request in to an online ayrd specializing in isuzus, but trying to see what other options I ahve.

Shop manual isn't quite clear enough on this for me to say for sure whether or not the 2.6L manifold fits.

Anyway, thanks in advance for any help, and thanks even if ya don't know. :)

etp, I ran into trouble once when installing a used motor into my old Mazda GLC. The one I put in came from the take-outs they do in Japan @35,000 miles. Although it looked the same, and they said it was a total bolt in, the exhaust manifold had a different "bend" to it, and was about .75" out of line from where it needed to be.

I know that this was absolutely no help, but such as I have give I to thee.

Good luck!

BTW, does anyone make an aftermarked tubular/header exhaust for it?

Calmini has a header, but I face same issue of not being sure if it'll work(they list one for 2.3 carb and one for 2.6 EFI, but not one for 2.3 EFI). Also, looks noticably longer than stock manifold, so not sure it'd be direct bolt in. Theyr'e also not supposed to be best company service wise, so hesitant to order it unless I'm sure it'll work, as if it doesn't fit, don't want a company with basd service to try to fight with to return it.

Lastly, if I can avoid it, dont' really wanna put $200 set of headers on the truck. :) But it's definitely on the list of options, if I can get someone who knows these engines to tell me yes, exhuast parts for 2.6 EFI engine(be it manifold or headers) will fit on my 2.3

Thanks for the bit of input though, yeah, i've seen some strange things like this before too, that's why I'm trying to make sure of everything before I spend any money, particularly if I'm orrdering something online, rather than picking it up locally.

Call regional service tech manager. Worth the $ to check.

For a while there, the Japanese trucks seemed to have a version for each month of each year, all with different emission routings, and fuel delivery systems. They did this to make you crazy.

It worked.

Someday I'll tell you about the Nissan. Fire was really the only answer.

Try all the specialty sources and the parts procurment busineses. But a 200 dollar header sounded cheap to me. I kinda wonder how much the right manifold is going to cost you once you find it?

On the good news front, my dear Momma, had a Isuzu Pup, and it lasted over 20 years. It had the sh-t beat out of it, but still ran. The model had only been out a couple years if that when they bought it, and it was finally sold, still running only a couple years ago.

Kismet; someday, when you're in the mood, I'd like to read the story of the Nissan. I'll bet some others have their own horror tales to keep just such an OT thread going.

I definitely would like to hear the story sometime too, Kismet.

Yeah Munk, $200 isn't too much for headers at all(one advantage to a 4 cylinder, I remember pricing them out for my 350), I jsut don't feel much like putting headers on a vehicle where I'm not looking to add performance(maybe if I ever switch it over to a crab, but this EFI no one seems to know much about, as it was the one year model, and hence no real tips on tweaking it to make sure it runs right if you open up the intake and exhaust more, least, not that I've foun dyet.). Plus, the stock manifold is actually pretty well designed, as you can see at this link(aftermarket manifold, but same style, just has some reinforcing in areas prone to cracking on stock one.

Lastly, the manifold should be a bolt in, so I can do it myself(in theory, bolts on the EGR valve won't be easy to get to). The header, in addition to the $200 for header, and $70 for O2 sensor, would need at LEAST another $30 down at my muffler shop to install it, and probably more, as it's not a bolt in, so they'd have to cut the first pipe frrther back and weld on a new flange to bolt up to the headers.

PZ93C, thanks a bunch fo that information. i will probably call that salvage yard sometime this week(After I try the other import yard here locally, of ocurse). And I've now registered on that forum and already put up a post or two. :) Dunno how I never found that in past, as I've had this truck for just over three yeras now, and every few months get out and look for sites with info on it. Course, found another one(planetisuzoo.com) this time around that I hadn't found in past.

Anyway, thank for all the input guys. Will deifnitely take any more input, but I think between the two yards I still hae to call, a third one I put in a parts request for, and this aftermarket manifold, should be able to get myself working again somewhere in there.

The one nice thing is that since I had the cat pulled last year, even though the O2 sensor is rather lose in the manifold right now, don't have the back pressure stock exhuast would, so it hasn't been knocked out. wiht the cat, probably woulda blown sensor across engine compartement first time I got on the gas. :)

Ive gotten a fair amount of parts from Junkyarddog.com it is a net listing of participating junkyards
