Well, looks we are in for some nasty stuff here. The local IKEA stores are closed in Holland today. Yesterday they found 2 explosives in IKEA stores, today in another IKEA store. This last explosive was detonated by a bomb-squad, several minutes ago.

They also evacuated the dutch national press agency (ANP).

I'll keep you posted.

Emile:

I'm sorry to hear that. But, as the world descends into chaos, this sort of thing is going to be ever more common. Any idea re: who planted the bombs?

Prayers said for your safety,

S.

Bombs are the terrorist's (read that coward's) weapon of choice. Unfortunately the holiday shopping season puts crowds of people into the "herd mentality", making many lucrative targets for such evil schemes. Stay sharp and alert, and avoid crowded public places, I've got a sinking feeling it won't be long before the bad guys try something else.

No place and nobody is off limits. I don't know where this is going to end.

Up to the hilt is my preference.

I'll give a recap.

It all started tuesday evening when they found suspect parcels in two IKEA stores. I did not watch tv then, so I heard about it this morning. The packages both contained explosives. Several people got injured dismantling these bombs, no deads, fortunately.

Wednesday morning bomb alerts were up for more IKEA stores, the national dutch press office ANP and for the headquarters of the dutch gasoline company (NAM). These last two alerts were false. Furthermore, evacuations of several embassies in Uganda were taking place also.

The squads found several suspect parcels in more IKEA stores during the day, some of them were detonated by bomb squads. IKEA management is now in the process of deciding what stores to open and when. They are hit very hard now in the holiday buying season. They took a very responsible step to close all 10 stores immediatly.

This is all very strange. In a tightly crowded country like Holland, everything stops when one thread alert gets active, let alone several at once. It is good to see that we are able to deal with this.

Tensions are high here. There are several Al-Q'aida terrorist suspects on trial in Holland at this time, and these actions might be linked to them. Or otherwise, somebody must have a real grudge against IKEA. As far as my opinion counts, it is all terrorism.

update: I just read that IKEA received a kind of extortion letter, so they are assuming criminals for now.

I'll keep you informed,

Sarge I'm with you. I see no end to this mess very soon. It is unfortunate but, I think it will get much worse before it gets better.

It is a shame that the world is almost at the mercy of some very sick people. I see no honor for a soldier who takes his fight to the innocent and the defenceless. Just like the reference above. What ever they claim, they are not soldiers but cowardly Ba$tards.:D

What a farking world.

It's hard to tell what's closer to the bottom of the bilge, terrorists making war on innocents and children in the name of what-ever cause, or opportunist extortionists emmulating them to enrich themselves in the name of themselves.

While the terrorists stand tall enough to walk upright under a snake's belly, I don't think the copy-cat extortionists walk tall enough to smell the terroist's @ss.

Of course both should be completely eradicated from any bilge or other residence on this planet they pollute. They are evil symbionts.

It has always been this way. Safety is an illusion.

I also read in the news that terrorists are trying 'softer' (read non-gov't non-mil and non political) targets, like shopping areas, hotels (Kenya), buses (Irael) and other targets that aren't easily monitired or protected.

Everyone be on your guard, be vigilant. A few dissenters can't take down everything. Perseverance, folks. We'll weather this storm like the generations before bore their burdens in the world.

Keith
