Yup, been tinkering again. Love my KPH/Sarge knives, but wanted to cook up my own recipe. I'm very much accustomed to puukkos, and other small utilitarian belt knives, that do not have guards. Just my personal preference, but for me a guard on a small utility knife feels about as unnatural as going to bed with my boots on (not that I haven't slept with my boots on a time or two ;) ).

So, what's a feller to do? I had this ancient metal cutting file marked "Hindustan, India", with a neatly stamped pair of scissors as a maker's mark. Also had a block of mysterious Amazonian hardwood that was a gift years ago from Pappy. I've always appreciated the simple honesty of karda handles (some of the larger kardas make good little belt/kitchen knives). So KPH/"Sarge" knife, plus karda, equals what I'll have hanging on my belt as I paddle a canoe at Inks Lake tomorrow.

Hope y'all enjoy my latest bit of foolishness. :D

So when is that first Dan Koster/Sarge collaboration going down? ;) :D

Dan's the real deal, I'm just a neanderthal tinkering with a grinding wheel and some old files out in the garage. :D

There must be a bit of the feline about you to torture us in such a manner !
They are all nice . That first one with the black handle looks like one to last a lifetime or two ! The kind of one your kids would be glad to inherit .
Old files ? I wish my worn out tools looked so good !

What do you mean "torture?" :grumpy: Sarge is an inspiration to all of us. Hang around long enough and your old files will look that good as well, live and learn Grasshopper, live and learn. :p

Sarge, that Karda is really nice. :) You done good. The blade reminds me of my Western Hunter from the 50's, and the Sarge. ;)

I have wanted to forge or grind a knife for a very long time ! I have committed myself to being able to scrape out a shootable selfbow before I take on any projects that are not archery or hunting camp related . . I am also learning to work with rawhide including scraping and drying the hides as well as learning to form it . I just processed a 150 pound buffalo hide and am waiting for it to dry so I can work with it .

When I have some free time I,ll ask what would be a simple first project and maybe grasshopper will one day leave the temple .

Now looky here Kevin, I don't know what all this "feline" business is about, but be advised I don't much care for cats in general. :p

Still, you are a fellow archer and bowyer, so I'm not ready to invade Canada just yet. :D I've come along far enough in my bowyer skills that I actually put on a bowmaking seminar for some of my fellow medievalists from Texas and Oklahoma. With a bit of instruction, help, and guidance, they cranked out thirteen pretty decent longbows in a single day. Had to stop 'em at one point due to a fire/safety hazard. The wood shavings were piling up so thick from all the drawknives and spokeshaves, that you couldn't see the shop floor anymore.

As for my new "Kismet Karda", it performed flawlessly on my little canoe excursion at Inks Lake yesterday. Fits my 3-C's (compact, comfortable, capable) parameters for EDC's very well. :)

Thats alright ! I don,t even think cats like cats ! ! L:O:L

As for bowyer ? My goal is to complete one bow in my lifetime . Of course I,ll be happy with a couple more . I,ve made a couple but always with help for tillering .

As for invading Canada ? Come on up . Bring some budweiser with you and I,ll throw some buffalo ribs in the slowcooker . I just got a recipe for a coffee, black pepper rub from a Texan that sounds out of this world .
