OT - Knife Cases

I've been looking to find some zippered knife cases for storing some of my knives and could use a little help.

Are all knife cases created equal? Or do I have to worry about quality?

Where did you get yours? Would you buy again?

Any suggestions as to the best places to find and buy would be appreciated. Thanks.

I was thinking about getting a nice hard case for my ASH-1's whenever they arrive.

Was looking at the Pelican 1490 hard case - should be JUST the right size for holding 3x ASH-1's!

Not sure about the pick-n-pluck foam though. I have a small Pelican that I use for my PSP with custom cut foam in the shape of my PSP, no idea how they did that!

I have one maxpedition and it is sweet. It was also a little pricey if you need more than one. I was lucky enough to have been given several hard cases and they work great. I bought several zippered cases from www.gunaccessories.com. They are thin but they are adequate and do the job. For the FBM size, they were like $6.99 I believe! Hope that helps, c4boar!

Thanks for the sugguestions.

I'd seen the Maxpedition cases before and although I might get one or two for transporting knives they're a little expensive to put a dozen or so in a drawer.

These at www.gunaccessories.com/ are a little more what I had in mind. Thanks, c4man.

Do they have nylon or vinyl exteriors? I can't tell from the descriptions or pics. Thanks, again.

There is a family that I've seen at some of the Indianapolis and St. Louis gun shows. They sew a bunch of nylon stuff by hand. I've been buying knife cases from them, any size, $4 ea or 3/$10.

I also found an aluminum tool case at Menard's recently. It is probably 18"x14"x5" and filled with the padding that you pluck out in little rectangles. $20. It is enough to hold about 6-7 customs.

We are collecting one the the hardest-use knives available - only simple protection is necessary! ;) You're really only avoiding scratches - right?

If you really want to protect them, avoid taking safe queens out of the case, any case, once you've been drinking too much. See my other thread post about the mint ash1se and the holy terror. :)

Thanks bro. But at $25 a piece, times 10 or 20 :(

Maybe I'll just stick with the newspaper and tape method (LOL)

You need some of these 3/$10 zippered, padded nylon cases!! :D

("No," I have none for sale. I'll look for those folks again!)

I thought that, too. Paddling_man's $3/10 sounded good but I don't have plans to get there any time soon.

Found some in the $5-8 range at www.gunaccessories.com/ thanks to c4man, in case you missed it in the post above.

I just checked the link - those are basically the same as I've been buying.

Maybe I should buy a bunch of these and sell them at the next Blade?!? ;)
