I just made this one. The blade is D2, 62HRC. Made by local guy.
The handle is IPE leftover wood from bow and the bolster bronze I found in my workshop. I still cant fit blade and bolster as I wanted, or cant imagine the way to do it other than soldering. I worked as locksmith for a time, so I know how to work metals.

If you have radiused fades from tang to blade, what methodes are you using for the fiting?

Either solder or use JB Weld, a steel filled epoxy.

The standard method for custom knives is generally to use a low temp silver solder, with careful fitting of the guard/tang joint, however JB Weld will also make an extremely strong bond without soldering.

Very nice handle and design. I love D2. Sharp and tough as hell. I have a K-Bar spearpoint in D2 that could cut a hole through my car hood and still shave hair.

Also have a Peter Bauchop fighter in polished D2 that is one of those scary sharp ones you run into from time to time.

Nice job!

Regards,

Norm

That's nice, Hawkwind. Nice puuko shape. Scandinavian, in any case.

I understand your frustration with the bolster fitting. I use JB Weld, and after I screw that up, aluminum filler. Guess I just need to do a few 100 more.
