OT Leuko knife? ebay

Fairly standard looking, but it's the real deal, would make a good camp/kitchen knife. I've been meaning to get one made by Rosselli, I hear good things about them.

Okay, I'll ask...what's with the excess leather at the bottom of the sheath? At least a chape has a mission...to poke holes in our ankles when we squat.

Nasty?

I think it is just an ethnic design element. I've seen it most times on Lapp knives. It may have some origin in how the sheaths were made, but more likely it is a cultural thing. Or a tourist board differentiation.

Lapps are a rigorous folk. Hell of an environment and difficult existence in which to try and function. If I recall correctly, they ignored political boundaries when they followed the reindeer migration into Soviet territory...and were allowed to do so. Nobody else wanted to go there !:)

So, long response saying, "dunno."

EDIT: Or, there could be a perfectly rational explanation: "The sheath is made of richly decorated reindeer horn and leather with a round-shaped design which make the knife slip away when you sit down."

Nasty, that's a Kalavela style sheath quite common in Finland. The ornamental flaring at the termination of the sheath is kind of like the cho on a khukuri. Both look odd to our eyes, but have traditional meaning to the people among whom they originated. Look again at the sheath and see if it doesn't remind you in an abstract way of the antlers on reindeer. Reindeer are to the Saami what buffalo once were to our Native Americans, oops, sorry Yvsa, I meant nDn's ;-)

Kis & Sarge...Thanks, both make sense! :D

Who said 90% of the net was just porn? It's nice to see we are part of the elite 10%

If it were made for a Finn or Lapp to use, would it say, in English, "Reindeer Knife Co. Finland"? Looks like just like one of the thousands cranked out by Martinni except most of those made for export are stainless. They come pretty sharp ROOTB.
