Friends,

The current thread on UFOs has compelled me to share some pix I took on a trip to Scotland earlier this month. They should prove, once and for all, the existence of a prehistoric beast in Loch Ness beyond the requirements of the harshest skeptics.

Since I have a degree in biology and lifelong exposure to natural history, and manage a website on fossils to boot (http://fossilpage.homestead.com), I'm obviously an expert whose observations can be wholeheartedly trusted with 100% confidence. So believe me when I say that dinosaurs walk among us! :p

1. Nessie appears in the distance as a black hump in the middle of the Loch.

2. Here you can see the monster's long neck emerging from the surface.

3. This says it all! The critics will be forever silenced.

The truth is out there...

Man.....it's not even Friday yet....:(

Ruel--great fossils. That crab is amazing. Oddly enough, I too have a degree in biology, and from a biological perspective, I'd have to agree that there's little evidence that Loch Ness could support a single creature the size of Nessie, let alone a breeding population of such creatures. Nevertheless, you won't find me swimming there. Who knows what kinds of underground connections to the ocean still exist down there. I think one of the shortcomings of mainstream science is an unwillingness or inability of most scientists to examine topics outside the mainstream. Cryptozoology and UFO's both spring to mind. I find "scientists" who dismiss such topics outright without examining any of the evidence just as amusing as wholehearted believers who need no evidence whatsoever to believe. Being a skeptic doesn't mean that you automatically dismiss things you can't understand.

Nessie died a long time ago, caught in a fishing boat's net and served to American school children in the 50's as Tuna.

I think there are still wonders on Earth we don't know or understand.
Wasn't 'giant squid' a myth until recently treated seriously?

* Yeah, cryptozoology and UFOs differ from most paranormal stuff in that their objects of study are both still within science for the most part -- extensions of biology and physics. That can't be said of ghosts, psychic powers, etc. The problem, it seems, is that both fields are dominated by non-scientists or scientists working outside the scientific framework, publishing in non-scientific journals. That gives both fields the appearance of a lack of academic standards, often quite deserved. Rather unfair to the hard-working legitimate researchers trying to learn about new species or the possibility of extraterrestrial life ("xenobiology" I think they call it now).

* That crab is a favorite of mine -- a garage/estate sale find for $10. Glad I decided to stop and poke around!

* A giant squid model -- for some reason, placed in the Insect Hall of the Royal Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh:

Many moons ago when I lived in Las Vegas I had a friend who worked for EG&G out at the test site. He used to leave the company newsletter laying around a lot. I remember seeing an issue that had pix from an EG&G financed research trip to Lock Ness. There was a photo of what looked like a "flipper?" with the article. Seemed legitimate at the time.

They (EG&G) did some interesting investigation and testing in Hiroshima and Nagasaki following up reports by residents of "phantom" people and traffic- also covered in one of the company newsletters.

Munk, I think the deal with the squid was that people were claiming that they got much bigger than the large size that has been documented.

The sucker scars on whales, and the squid beaks in whales stomachs have been known for a long time.

Hey anyone remeber the "flying rods" that were supposed to be some strange form of life that supposedly moved so fast that they could only be seen on slowed down video tape?

poke around the site to see convincing proof that they are really images of close-flying insects that have been distorted by the digital equivalent of the cameras shutter and the frame-interlacing of video.

People were trying to raise money for an "expedition" to capture one!

Yep, them there were thought to be extinct. Had something to do with their strange courtship behaviours. Latin name is Megasorass if my memory serves. :footinmou

to my knowledge, Air Force Intelligence officers have never visited nessie witnesses and threatened their lives if they spoke to anyone about what they saw.

.....and in this case it's plastic!

Larry, that's what the government wants you to believe! ;)

Danny,

Since you're in Japan, you might be interested to know that there's a book in my library (can't locate it just now) claiming that Jomon pottery figures from several thousand years ago, such as the image below, actually represent aliens who settled in the islands and were the basis of the Shinto gods.

This book, however, lacks the high standards of critical insight I and others mentioned before. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence, and this book, like so many others of its kind, came up short.

Dear God,
Archaeology in Japan!
the worlds most academically full of **** course of study.

The Archaeology departments here actually state that their purpose is to discover the true origin of the Japanese people.

(cause they for sure didnt evolve with the rest of us dirty monkeys)

Neat fossils Ruel! I have a few collected in the 1920s & 1930s by a well known archaeologist, I think one of them is a small turtle or tortoise type animal, but it cataloging has long gone, would you be able to identify what it is if I sent you some photos?

Cheers,
Spiral
