OT:Locked car?

This came in a strange email to me. but it does work, Al
Subject: Locked your keys in your car????

If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone on your cell phone.

Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the other person at your home press the unlock button of your key fob (clicker), holding it near the phone on their end. Your car doors will unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you.

Distance is no object you could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other "remote" for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk!).

Editor's Note * It works fine! We tried it out, and it unlocked our car over a cell phone!)

I locked the car had my youngest daughter call me while I was far away from the car. I clicked open into the phone and I could hear the car doors unlock through her cell phone.. My daughter confirmed that sure enough the doors opened.

If the signal was good, it sounds right to me. Out here, you can barely make out what the other person is saying.

False...it's another routine urban legend. Check Snopes dot com to see for yourself.

The door doesn't work off of sound, it works off of radio signal and cell phones are not repeaters.

well anyways, although I know that the key works via a different signal, has anyone tried it? I mean, you can also enlarge the distance by pressing the key to your head, so what do I know....

Too bad it's an urban legend like Nasty said. I locked the keys in my car the other day with my wife and kids inside, and it must have taken me 2 hours with a bent wire coat hanger to get them out!

Putting the opener to your head takes advantage of your body as an antenna and strengthens the output.

("Please hold the rabbit ear antenna until my favorite program is over." "Yes, dear." :rolleyes: )
 
An 18" WWII will get a car open pretty quickly too, and no roaming charges! Heck, 5 or 6 solid whacks and you've got a convertible, one less lock to worry about.
