OT: Lovely little ivory-handled knife

I've seen tapered tangs before, but never one like that! I wonder how it feels in the hand?

very nice!

This is the message I sent to the seller.

"Greetings. Just wanted to let you know that your beautiful knife has engraving, not filework. The engraving is of a type known as "wriggle" or "wiggle" cut engraving. It is accomplished by taking a small flat graver, standing it up vertically on the metal, pushing down, and then walking the graver forward, rocking the chisel from side to side as you go. This type of engraving is used for borders on guns and knives, as well as on jewelry. Sometimes, the thick stems of letters for an inscription may be cut this way too.

Hope this helps some. I am a professional hand engraver, just so you know."

Take care,

Tom

That handle is similar to many of the Yataghans and other knives from the area of Afghanistan.
Strange that he has designated it as Swedish, perhaps the Puukko style is what prompted him to do so....

Never post before checking better. It might be a dagger from Crete. posted by Steve Ferguson.

"A Dagger from Crete," mmmmmmmmm

film noir?

Mysterious and sensual Eurasian woman seeks the help of an unsuspecting American/Canadian tourist, who is a khukuri hobbiest on a relaxing tour of the world after winning a huge lottery. She is being pursued by the minions of a former county board administrator who foreclosed on her family's property in order to sell it to the Russian Mafia, and in the foreclosure, found the ivory-handled dagger in a locked steel box, hidden under some 19th Century clothing, with a map indicating the site of a potential world-altering spiritual/psychotropic/financial/religious/political/administrative secret.

Very pretty! Thanks for the link. I love the look of aged Ivory. Although I do have to say that based on my experience, for a piece of Ivory that is almost 90 years old I would expect it to be much more yellowed than it is. (?)

Regards,

Norm
