I just finished rereading Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor E. Frankl. He was a holocaust survivor and psychiatrist. In the book he recounts his many years in the Nazi death camps and gives reasons why he survived. I had read it the first time over 20 years ago and again rediscovered it.

"Everything can be taken from a man but ...the last of the human freedoms - to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way."

A powerful thought and a great book.

Just wanted to share.

The Dali Lama was talking with a Buddhist monk who had spent almost 20 years in a Chinese prison. The Dali Lama asked, "were you in danger all these years?" The monk replied, "only four times." Dali Lama said, "were you under threat of death?" The monk said, "no but I almost stopped loving the Chinese 4 times."

Attitude!!!

Thanks, Semp.

Thanks for reminding me Semp. I've read that book 2-3 times in the past 10 years. In many ways it's the foundation that I build a lot of stuff on.

Occasionally these sort of ideas get attacked by the 'rationalists' in my life as being too 'airy fairy' and if I'm not careful I can get sucked in to believing them. But you can't get a more hard core testing ground for an ideology than a concentration camp I would think.
