I'm going to get sentimental. My dad died 4 years ago in October. At the time my mom gifted me with a knife. She told me to have a knife made that would be in honor of my dad. Since we are from Michigan I am a fan of Scagel knives. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Scagel) My dad and I spent a lot of years in Michigan's Upper Peninsula hunting together with my uncle at my uncle's camp. My dad and uncle were best of friends. They both passed just a few months apart.

Mike Malosh (Michigan knife maker) does some fine Scagel style knives and because of the Michigan connection (The only reason they aren't Fiddlebacks) I asked him to make a hunter style knife honoring my dad.

This past July my mom moved in with my wife and I. She had cancer. In August my mom passed. I contacted Mike and asked him to make a bird and trout to match my dad's hunter in memory of her. My mom loved the outdoors. She loved wild game. Mom enjoyed preparing rabbit, squirrel, grouse and pan fish. She loved listening to my hunting stories and looking at my knives. Some of her loudest "oohs and ahhs" belonged to Andy's knives!! Anyway I received the bird and trout from Mike today.

These knives are in honor of my parents. A Hunter for dad to remember our hunt trips together and a Bird and Trout for mom. I know we all appreciate a beautiful knife so I thought this would be appropriate and a nice opportunity to share beautiful work.

Sorry to learn of your losses Dave. But beautiful knives for a memorial for them.

Thank Brian. These knives are a celebration! There are great memories here and these will be used! That's appropriate.

Losing people that you love totally sucks, but I really appreciate the thoughtful ways people choose to remember them. This is really cool. Thanks for sharing.

Dave, I am very sorry about your loss. I lost my Mum recently and can understand the hurt.

These two blades are a wonderful way to remember your Parents.

Those are some beautiful knives Dave. What a great way to honor your parents. Thanks for sharing.

That's a tough hand to be delt. It is also a great way to keep the memories alive. I hope you have many prosperous hunting/fishing seasons to keep the memories alive.

Sorry for your loss Dave. Beautiful knives, considering your parents love of the outdoors, that is great way to remember them.

Thanks everyone. Again this is celebration thread and showing off a couple of beautiful knives. We as a family had our time to mourn and there was a lot of much appreciated Fiddleback family support during those moments.

Mike makes incredibly beautiful Sacgel style knives. The leather and stag combo is one of my favorite historical handles. He typically uses O1 steel.

Sorry to hear about your parents. I completely under stand how much something like that can mean to someone.

I still have both my parents, both wonderful, caring, giving people. Here's one I bought my father. A Dan Harrison custom.

It was somewhat the big daddy to the Dan Harrison he bought me when I was 15.

Those are beautiful blades, very nice pair Major D.

MajorD. The only thing better than those two beautiful knives was the fact they are in celebration of your parents. Thanks for sharing the story and the knives with us.

Beautiful knives! Great stag on those.

Ironically it was my love of Scagel and Marbles stag handles that inspired my bone handled Hiking Buddy Andy did for me years back when he was doing custom work.

Hey Dave. I really enjoy learning a bit more about the fellow forum members here. Especially hearing that your Mom liked to share your love of knives. Thank you for sharing this story and I certainly wish you all the best.

Nice knives by the way!

Thank you. Dan Harrison is right in my home town and been doing knives for over 60 years. Great man.

I feel that it's really cool when you have a local connection. I'm lucky living in Michigan where there have been some great knife makers that have influenced some of today's modern styles. (Scagel, Marbles, Dave Shirley - Northwoods Knives, Mike Stewart - with Marbles and Bark River)

Man, cool thread. I think your memorial knives are touching Dave. Beautiful also! I love Scagels.

Great tribute and fabulous knives. I still carry my father's favorite folder to church with me on Sundays.

Love the tribute... gotta find something similar to honor my folks that went away way too soon. Likely not knives though but this is great inspiration. Thank you
