OT: Motorcycle: U.S. Marine versions of KLR

My wife's not to hot on them either. Of course I only ask for one when seeing some punk do a wheelie at 70MPH on the highway or something similarly stupid. Or showing the motorcycle videos from the net. But someday...

If this is that diesel motorcycle, that thing is really cool.

I love rockin thumpers like KLRs. I used to flog a very modified Yamaha XT550 through the deserts of the Southwest and had a ball on it. Big singles like that are a handful to pick up when you fall over and not agile enough for the tightest trails , but the will take you nearly anywhere and bring a comfort and range not generally available in smaller bikes.

I gave up all my bikes about nine eyars ago after a nasty street bike crash, but have been thinking about getting another thumper for cruising around the fire roads.

Love my baby, but anything on two wheels is great, and always liked Kawi's dirt/motocross bikes. VERY interesting.

Except fo course that diesel costs more than gas

did you see the waves in the background ? guess what, I have been surfing there ! we went there 3 times, cause it's a great place to surf, good waves, no crowd. plus we got to see marines on the beach, some on motorbikes, and some tanks as well.

small world i guess.

The wife has a newer yamaha xt225....I have an older honda trail 110.

Whoa! How'd the wife pull that one off? Stickin' you with a CT 110 while she's riding a 225? (maybe better not to post it...sounds like something my own wife would do when we finally get a couple dual purposes)

Used to have a CT 110 when I was a kid...bad ideaat the time...I was in teens and still had alot to prove, so it wasn't a real great idea when my father got rid of my CR 125 and talked me into a CT 110. It didn't table top worth a darn, and I really had to rev that engine up high just to pop a wheelie with the automatic clutch  Of course looking back on it I realize what a little A-hole I was for destroying such a nice little bike. It would've been a fantastic little hunting rig if I'd used it properly.

My last bike was an 85 CR 500 (which is much faster than the late model 500s) that thing helped contribute about 40k to the local ER before I got rid of it....sure was fun for awhile though. :D I just had to admit to myself that I'm just not as young, tough and talented as I once was, and in my mid twenties I would NEVER become the next Jeremy Mc Grath.

Now I'd like to find a decent DR 350 to take exploring and beating down the trails, like to put the wife on a TW, or maybe a KLR 200. Never been real hot on the KLR 650 for actual off road use. (dunno about the militarys version of it though) Sure would be nice if I could get those bikes this summer...(my annual spring wishlist is already beginning) :D

I've had the ct110 for years. It's a fantastic trail bike. Flip it over to low on the gearing and it just chugs right along. Comfortable and well balanced and it's quiet compared to everything else on the roads.
Anyway, I've had it awhile when the wife decided she wanted a dual bike. Like most women she's small of stature so that limited it a bit. She needed something that when she dumped it she could get it back upright. Feeway legal. Seems to be a good match. Light and nimble, strong enough and short enough.

Wish I'd gotten something like that for my wife when she wanted a trail bike (her first motorcycle) instead I got her an XR 400. Bad idea...next one for her is gonna be two something cc electric start, and preferrably a bit lower seat height.

CT 110s are spectacular rigs once you're mature enough to appreciate thier virtues. I've been drooling over another one myself lately.
