This is a RANT. I have an 8 year old home with built in microwave over stove. It just died on my. It started to cook itself instead of food.

The thing that kills me is that I have microwaves from the 70's at work that are still kicken. Of course their probably microwaving me as much as the food, but they never break.

This POS is broken. So I remove the bastard and I go get a new one. The guy at lowes says you want 1 year insurance for the new one? I said if this one breaks in one year, I will catapult launch it from my house back to your business.

So I get back and after a crapload of work, because they never make anything the same so I had to put all new brackets and drill all new holes, I finally got the new one.

But it was time to do some OFFICE SPACE work to the old one, baby:

Appliances today have designed obsolescense. (sp?)

TV's only last 5 or so years. My "first" TV as a bachelor lasted 15. My folks still have 11" color TV's from the early 80's.

If my mom still lived in teh home we grew up in, she'd likely still have the microwave we bot in 1980-something. One of the first Sharp Carousel ones.

The catch is that a LOT of us would pay FAIR PRICE (read: 3x what things cost now) to buy something that lasted. But a manufacturer can't make money on that. Sure, you can spend 3x as much. And it'll pleasure your wife and grind your coffee while microwaving your donut. I don't need that. Just make some freaking popcorn and I'm happy! Stop with all the extra gadgets.

My mom still has her 1981 round wafflemaker. To this day, you spray it once with PAM and it DOES NOT STICK!

Two weeks ago, I heaved my 3yr old "nonstick" wafflemaker. Nonstick my Aunt B! It was a ever-losing battle to see how many waffles I could get out of it.

Yesterday I cracked open my new $40 Cuisinart wafflemaker. Sleek stainless steel design. Adjustable timer/temp slider to make several versions of burnt waffles.

ARRGGHHH!!!!! Stick stick stick!!!! Oh, did I mention Cuisinart told me NOT to oil it. OY! Fat chance! And did I mention they designed this wonder of wonder so all the steam pours out RIGHT ONTO THE HANDLE???? Burned myself five times trying to pry the thing open.

It gets one more try on next Saturday (Daddy Bfst Day) and then it goes back. I'll find a $100 one with NO bells and whistles online and make em the way they should be made.

So I feel your pain. I spend a lot of time finding the right appliance these days, but they are being made cheaper and cheaper to get you to buy more often. That way, the company can survive with a minimal market share b/c they have constant sales. Think of what would happen if you have small market share and your product lasts 10 years. You'd be out of biz. Make it last 4-5 at best and you stay afloat for decades. :(

Wow. Sorry for piling my rant onto yours. LOL

no worries pile it on. I hear yah. They make more POS now than every before to make us buy more stuff. Well here is what I say:

did you check out the music. Same one as Office Space printer scene :D

here is some more. I say, rebel against the machines:

Cobalt, you da man!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Pure gold! :D:D:D You showed that MW POS a thing or two... Office space has the greatest mafia type hit on an electrical product ever to be committed to film... period...

And yeah, nothing is made to last these days, all these 1 year warranties 'incase' your new $500 POS decides to give up the ghost after 10 months... I guess we Busseholics expect too much from every other company... ;)

Pat yourself on the back, job well done...

(ps - you should ship that MW back to the manufacturer now!)

Hearing that music in your first vid made me want to throw a knife at my computer to make it shut up. Maybe next time, you could chop something up with "The Sound of Music" in the background to make it even more tortuous.:D

Great vids:thumbup:
Now we know who the "microwave killer" is:D
(the nieghbor looking out her window) "Honey! He's at it again!! Come here quickly. He's throughing a HUGE knife at a microwave!!. What is wrong with him?":p

glad you guys liked it. sorry about the music, but it is the office space hit music..:D

Yah, I am sure my neighbors view me quite differently now.
