I have a long video file that was made using VCD (best I can figure out).

I want to convert it to a small video file to stream over the internet.

The video takes up the entire CD (or else I'd gladly email it.... )

The filename on the CD that contains the video content is: AVSEQ01.DAT

I have a pretty good video converter for AVI-to-WMV, etc. But I have no idea how to convert this one.

Any help?

Dan is so competant with this stuff I was mildly surprised to see him asking a question. Guess it just underscores that no one knows it all.

Maybe he's trolling.
  ;) :)

Ferg - thanks for the link, I'm not sure it will help, though.

Here's the deal (maybe it will provide incentive).

Pasang made a video of Bura making a khukuri - gave it to Yangdu, who gave it to me. He used software similar to the link above to "compile" the video. VDC stands for Video CD. That means you can stick it in your computer, or in your DVD player and it will play the video on its own. No media player needed. It's "self sustaining".

Normally, that's a great idea. But in this case, I want to be able to take that video footage and stream it over the internet. I can do this already, if it's in mpeg, avi or wmv format.

However, since it's VCD, that means the video is "trapped" in a DAT file that's only accessible through VCD software.

I've never had a use for VCD, so I never took the time to fully learn it.

If there is anybody out there who is familiar/experienced with making/editing VCD, then you're the person I need to speak to. I need to know if it's possible to "export" the video to a different format.

If nobody replies, that's fine - I can still just duplicate the CDs and make them available for $$. But we're missing a great opportunity here to stream it over the internet for free........:(

Sorry it didn't help. The software is supposed to export a file from VCD to Mpg or others. Way out of my league. Hope you get it done, I'd love to see the vid!

With that one, Mpeg is the "method", VCD is the end result. Puts me back at square one. :(

I'm still looking....

everything I found at download.com is for converting avi/wmv/etc to VCD (instead of the other way around)....

I may be SOL on this one...

downloaded it - installed it - tried it a few times. Looks like it should be the right thing....but the output file has 0 bytes....:(
