Got into a gunshow in Fallon today. Fortunately, by the time I got there about half the exhibitors were closing up shop. I got there at 4:30 PM and the show closed at 5. So I didn't find another gun ( still have one on layaway ).

Ran into Reno Knives, there, like I did a year ago. This time they had a Cold Steel lockback I liked for $59 out the door. Cold Steel lists it at $89. It's a #29XT (plain) EXTRA LARGE VOYAGER TANTO PT. 5" tanto blade. Zytel handle, with a smaller than usual blackened clip so you can carry it tip up in your pocket.

I don't particularly care for tanto style blades, but I looked at Emersons and Benchmades starting at twice the price. And that was discounted! I like lockbacks over linerlocks, and the tanto point let the spine continue full thickness up to 1/2" from the point. I got out one of my Kershaw 1416 Talons I wish I'd gotten three of instead of two. The Voyager only looks about another half-inch longer closed than the Talon.

I'm pleased with what it is and for what I paid. Come cold weather when I can carry my 13+1 380, the Voyager will fit right in on my off-hand side.

"Cute little thang" compared to the khuks, though! :D :D :D

That's a good snag bro. USA Knives has them for $62.00 and change and since you didn't have to pay shipping so you came out a good ways ahead.:D
Not a bad lookin folder either, fer a Tanto.;) I'm like you and am not overly fond of the American Tanto blades either but they're not all that bad and they do have a good strong point.
The steel type wasn't listed but if it's the Carbon V like my old Twistmaster it'll do and do well.:D
The Zytel handle has held up well too, much better than I ever expected it too.
I haven't used the knife overly hard But it has been used and not babied, all in all I've been very impressed with it!:D  :D

Reno knives are good folks. They drop by maybe every three months or so to pick up a few khukuris.

Yvsa, i believe that the Voyager series is made out of AUS8A stainless. I was pretty big into Cold Steel before i found HI. I still like a lot of their knives, but almost all of my knife fund goes to HI. That was a good snag, Rusty. I usually get my pocket knives from wholesalehunter.com. I think they're asking $52 plus shipping for the 5" voyagers. Probably right at the same cost and you didn't have to wait on UPS:) Let us know what you think about it as you use it. I keep debating on getting a 6" clip point voyager.

I got a new pocket knife the other day at Harbor Tools. It's made in China, has a 4 inch stainless steel blade, wood and brass handles, cost .89 and cuts great.

Rusty, my every day/all day carry knife since 1997 has been a Voyager, Large Tanto, 50/50 Edge, 4" Blade.

At first, I thought the Zytel integral pocket clip would stretch and wear out quickly. But it hasn't budged. Many times, after an unexpected run chasing the bus I've reached down to check if it was stiil there ...didn't go anywhere :)

The other thing is that 4" is about the max length I felt I could get away with and not get hassled by the police, or worse confiscated.

Oh and uhmmm ...better be careful where you place that blade to rest at night Rusty. I hear Audrey likes 'em young :D

Just add an extra inch to the blade and make it plain edge and you've got it. Only difference is the clip is steel and held on with 3 screws.

I actually bought it cause it's California legal. Here in Nevada I prefer the 1416 Talon Kershaw's. Legal plus being liner locks they're easier to open. But can you imagine a California cop pulling a five inch bladed folder out of one pocket when doing a pat down, and then finding a Pocket Hobbit in the other?

By the way, Audrey disdains any comparisons with her to a folder.

Great knives and great snag. I have several Voyagers, but my all around favorite is the large Gunsite folder, which is essentially what you got a think with the AUS-8 tanto blade w/ Gunsite logo and combo edge. Sharp as hell right out of the box, in fact scary sharp.

No matter the length, if it folds it is CA legal, so your logic is correct there as well.

Norm

13+1 .380? Don't tell me you have a Beretta Model 84? Don't know of another model with that config. Nice gun. Almost bought one in 1982 but was talked into going with the blue Walther PPK/S instead as the profile under my arm was slightly flatter. Carried it every day for 3 years while driving cab in a Bianchi 210 medium shoulder holster (back when Bianchi made their stuff more concealable and not just for cops who didn't care if their shoulder straps showed) and was not sorry, but always loved the feel and balance of the Beretta.

Norm-

What I have are the CZ83's which are a bit more compact and boxier feeling than the Berettas, and the made by Beretta for Browning BDA's. I like the CZ's a little more back in the hand feeling than the Beretta/BDA's. No put down of the Beretta/BDA's - they also feel good, the CZ just feels better to me, and can be carried cocked and locked if you wish ( unlike the BDA ).

They are a commercial version of the CZ82, which was a 12+1 9x18 Makarov. Same exact magazine only in 380 will hold 13+1. A few years back I got one for $215 and later heard the price was going to go way up in January, so got a second one for $235. A few months back I ordered the satin nickeled version for $355. Now the AWB has expired, I'll get some more of the 13+1 mags. I've got six ten rounders and four pre-ban 82 mags.

During the hot part of the year I use a five shot airweight Bodyguard J frame or a steel 3 inch target sighted Chiefs' ( that is proper use of the apostrophe since it was introduced at a convention of the International Chiefs of Police ) in 38 spl. In winter I wear heavier clothes and can conceal the auto better. One always rides in the truck with me though. I'll try to post a link to CZ-USA a bit later.

I left it out, but I want you to know I did think of it. I wanted to keep the sentence short for emotional impact. Sort of like the emotional impact of being clubbed by that loaded cane you own.

It ain't loaded, it's just steel underneath the glass bedding compound.

....and a loaded bat is still a broken skull by any other name....

We need to get you a job. You should be in a brain hive somewhere, like the CIA or Pentagon. But in the meantime I can see a sit com- every week some new crazed felon attempts to attack Rusty. The weapon of the week is featured and available at Wal mart.

Oh, I forgot- that's in the alternative universe to this bizzaro world we inhabit.
