I received this email from one of my company's employees who is serving in Iraq. He is a transportation unit commander. I thought I would share with all of my friends on the HI forum. Rusty, Bill, if this is not appropriate here feel free to move it to another forum.

I eliminated names to keep confidential.

"You will hear this today on the news. My unit the XXXXTrans Co. had a soldier killed in an ambush Saturday night. just letting everyone know that it was not myself or Sgt. _____. One of my convoys was ambushed about 75 miles south of Baghdad, as they were moving a unit into an area where fighting was taking place, as they went through a small town during the night when they ran into an enemy ambush that killed 3 soldiers including one of mine. He was one of my platoon leaders, and a good friend, and one of my tent mates. His wife was expecting their first child in June.

I had just returned from a 2 week mission in Iraq. My convoy received some 20 mortar rounds on our position while we were staying over night in Baghdad. Besides the mortars, myself and 10 other soldiers were in a 20 minute fire fight in Baghdad, one thing Hollywood has gotten correct is what a bullet sounds like going by your head. We made them pay a price in advance for the life of my LT. Things are worse now than one year ago. These guys are cowards and will not fight us in the open, they will hide behind civilians, or in a building that has people around it or try to surrender after they shoot at us. Very few get the chance at that. Anyway all days are not bad, we do have some nice things around us.

One thing about being in a war zone is this, it brings the important things into clear focus for you. "

(Don't forget to pray each day for our men and women serving in far off places.)

I worry about all those guys over there. All of em(or most) are so young and haven't got to have a lot of fun yet. If we weren't so decrepit I think it would be more fair to send older people, since they have already lived and had a chance.

Still no word from Sarge right??

I wonder when the terrorists kill their own countrymen: are the dead part of the 'occupying army" too?

Using civilians like that is against every code I can think of. Moral, unwritten, legal, religious, name it.

And to think for years the IRA was being armed by liberals from Boston USA.

Munk,

Spare me the right wing bullshit in a thread that's not political :(

Lord, I hope Sarge is alright.

Good idea. We've already watered down the physical standards for firemen police and the military to let women in; why not have a heavily armed battalion of angry geris? You'd get a lot of volunteers.

Hollow, I'm not sorry for you. I'm angry you're even offended. The word 'bullshit' was totally uncalled for. You are offensive.

Hail the glorious dead. You will not be forgotten!

Blessings to the folk who will remain to live on, but are so shattered by this now.

Gritty stuff, Semp. Thanks fer sharin. It is easy to forget in such a politically charged arena that folks are dying there.

"But know this, that in the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here. (verse 5) having a form of godly devotion but proving false to it's power... " This passage most likely pertains to false Christians but the recent "Moslems" blowing up innocent Moslem children can apply too.

Let's also take a moment of silence for our Prisoners Of War...from whichever conflict they were participants in.

I don't accept the term missing in action...once they are classed as such folks tend to stop worrying about them since, after all, they are missing...

Ubi caritas et amor, Deus ibi est.

Plain and simple - where there is charity and love, there is God also.

Now calm down before I have to get violent!

( :p :p :D :D :D )

Thanks guys: Dan, Nasty, the others who've helped keep the forum on track if not on topic. These are emotional issues and too easy to get overexcited about. Yes I include me, too!

Semper - stuff like this is dead-on for this place.

Gossip is almost always written off as being a negative thing, when it actually has value for it's ability to let folks discuss morality in a distanced way and discover prevailing community standards. Like two teenagers can say stuff on the phone that they'd never reveal face to face. Or two housewives chatting over the backyard fence. Or having a drink at the bar - you can't hold someone to saying something odd after a few drinks, so you get to throw things out without much danger.

I like to think this forum also serves as a place to bounce ideas off of others. Anyway, it's time for my medication. ;)
