OK, I know others here love old rifles as much as i do, so I figured I would pass on a coupla deals I found today on my favorite of the old rifles, the Mosin Nagants.

Best deal yet:
AIM Surplus has the Russian Mosin Nagant M91/30 with match numbers, bayonet, ammo pouch, and 440rd tin of Hungarian yellow tip heavy ball 7.62x54R, all for $75

Another great deal:
Southern Ohio gun has Russian M44 Mosin Nagant carbines for $39/pc

Can you remind me what the difference between the M38 and M44 is? Was it the bayonet?

John

Unfortunately none of the dealers around me want to make any extra cash on receiving these items and since I dont' have an FFL or C&R all I can do is look and drooool.....

That is a good deal and thanks for sharing

Both are carbines, the M38 had no bayonets, and tended to be a cut down M91 or M91/30, or atleast old receivers, with new barrels. Can't remember which. The M44s were "new"(50 years ago) production receivers and guns made from ground up to be cabrines, and had a permantely affixed, folding bayonet(permanently meaning requiring a screwdriver to remove).

According to some geniuses over at a videogam eforum I used to post on, the point of the bayonet was meant to be screwdriver to use to attach and remove bayonet. How they managed to bend their bayonet 180 degrees to unscrew itself I have no idea. :D ;) He never would admit the impossibility of what he claimed.

YOU LUCKY %^$)"£$*!!!!!

You wouldnt believe how envious I am of you guys, the hasstle I am getting organising a Fire Arms Certificate is rediculous, I could get a Nagant over here for £79 if I was lucky! Even for living history I have to hire one and that costs £20 a day! Lucky so and so's!

Fenryr, check out Gunbroker's page of FFLs for FFLs that say they will transfer. There's a bunch in SC, hope you can find something. A C&R is very easy to get and will pay for itself many times over in savings (although your total outlay will likely be much higher :D)

I'm not a MN fan, but I have felt the hankering for some of the SKSs that are still reasonable. Also there is a rumor that a new batch of Lee-Enfields from Turkey are going to be available sometime. Now that's a trend I can jump all over, and I swear I won't let it pass me by this time!!

More LE's?
woohoo!
Ive been expecting something new for a few months. Everyone's had big sales and I'd assumed it was to make room for new stuff. Wonder if we'll ever see East German SKS's? I've also heard that there's a large shipment of Finish nagant's in the works. Love those '39's.

Thanks mPisi I'll give a try again....maybe the gun shops have changed their tunes. A lot of the pawn shops won't touch it either or if you find someone who will you have to drive an hour one way to pickup the item. I think there might be one guy here that will give it a go. Right now they are all swamped with CWP training

Yes, Thomas; SOG. Now, I've a gunsmith friend who claims SOG is really weird- that they advertise things they can't deliver, or won't answer the phone, or speak to him...
The few times I've used SOG they've been fine.

Never heard of SOG advertising things they can't deliver. THey have ben known at times though to grade their guns a bit higher than anyone else would, jsut word to the wise.

ANd yeah, love my M39 too, love Finn guns in general(and Argentine). Good chance I'll sell it though, jus8t rarely ever take it out shooting. If I wanna shoot long guns, grab my Chinese carbine instead.

My brother and I each bought a M44 while on vacation in Maine last summer. His is much nicer as it was made in '46, rich bluing and a bit more accurate than mine (which isn't saying much). Mine has the laminated stock and was made in '44. It has the wartime characteristics and isn't really accurate, probably because of the sights. They're both great.

Sigh. I don't suppose someone would like to ship me one? Didn't think so.
