Hey guys, does anyone know how much the fees are for paypal when you are crossing the border? I seem to recall reading somewhere that it's different than just regular US transfers???

Specifically I'm wondering about costs to send money to the Netherlands (actually, what it costs to recieve money in the Netherlands)???

Mods, if this is in any way improper for this forum, please accept my apologies and delete it

Curious about one thing though, when I send a payment to someone in the states, Paypal converts the USD payment to canadian and takes that off of my CC and then sends the USD to the recipient.

Are they still charged a conversion fee?

There is an international transfer fee of around 5 USD. Then the regular Paypal charges. But most sneaky of all is that the "paypal exchange rate" is a few cents per dollar BELOW the actual one. Fair enough if it is a "free" service but it is not. Charging for a service is fine by me. Charging for it at both ends, in the middle (exchange rate) and then a surcharge on top, is something else.

It will show as "cross the border fee" when you hit the detail tab.

I sent one to canada a while back and posted about it.
Seems like mine was almost $5 for a $410 knife, so I think it was a bit over 1%.

I'm not sure about the $5 transfer fee... Wouldn't be surprising...BUT the conversion fee is 2.5% PLUS the 3.9% + the $0.30 fee that comes FIRST for the transfer fee before the conversion fee is figured... IF this is incoming then this is in Euros, or whatever the currency BUT this never seems to come out to the exact amount... For me, two transactions ago, the Buyer from Switzerland went by my calculations and still somehow overpaid by almost $10 USD. Luckily, since he asked to have this shipped to a buddy in the States, I was able to send him $10 in US cash that I put in with the knife to make it right. The last transaction was much closer, only $.16 in my favor, but I don't like anyone overpaying me even by that much because they already have to pay so much more between PayPal's "cut" and their nation's customs duty and/or VAT tax... It DOESN'T surprise me that PP takes advantage of the conversion rates to tip the scales to their favor... :thumbdn: I like the service PayPal provides, but... Not the GREED. :grumpy:
