After my HDD crash, I decided to upgrade my digital photo software, and purchased Lightroom to process my pix... AMAZING what I was able to do with the raw "10 Active Duty's" image compared to the post processed one y'all have seen posted. (which was processed with Jasc Paint Shop Pro)
:D:thumbup:
This is my first Adobe photo processing software, and although I really do like what it can do, I'm at my wit's end with how to save/export the image correctly. :grumpy: When I am able to save... I mean export it, I cannot see the difference from the before image and the image saved from Lightroom even when it looks dramatically improved IN Lightroom. What am I doing wrong??? Also, resize and compression tips would be very much appreciated. I have MUCH to learn...But I definitely see the LIGHT, and I'm hoping it'll make my knife pix way cooler for viewing here.

Thank you in advance for any assistance!

Thanxx for readin',

A couple years ago I tried to use photoshop to resize a photo. After two hours of trying, I gave up because I couldn't figure out how to open the origional. It was very frustrating.

Then I downloaded and installed The Gimp and resized the photo all in about 10 minutes.

Today it took me about 30 minutes to make this:

shbm.jpg

I know that's a long time, and it would have looked better if I had been more careful, but I'm the guy who couldn't figure out how to open a photo with photoshop (and the blade is tapered so I had a lot of work to get the edges lined up).

The Gimp has more tools than I know how to use and it's still fairly straight forward.

I don't think any one will ever convince me to try photoshop again.

First... I don't own or use Lightroom...

But from what I unerstand of it, it does not alter the properties of the original file. I believe you have to "publish" the processed image and use what's been published. I do not know what the publish options are.

Hope this may help a little. :)

I like Photoshop, every other software I try seems like an awkward knock off.

Never tried lightroom, so I can't suggest anything there.

With photoshop, if I just want to stick some pics online, I go to a folder and select all the pics I want to resize/edit, then right click and select "edit with photoshop".
They all open up in separate windows. I go and make a new document, usually 800x600, then just drag them all from their windows into the new document. Then I have each pic on a different layer. I hit Ctrl T and transform them to fit the window, do whatever other adjustments I want, and then "save for web" with a compression setting of 60. Hide that layer, repeat for the next layer and so on.

You can download it for free from Google. Works ok, but real simple for a dummie like me. It has a lot of features I could not even tell you what they do, but one thing is easy. Lighting and cropping. I tried some others but did not know what was happening. OH well, can't complain, it was free.:D

Looks like you'll need to use photoshop.

Greg

No experience with Lightroom, but thats not what I got from reading the posts. I would try the suggestion regarding your preferences in post four of BusseCollector's link. Good Luck.

Edit: Just reread the linked post and I think I misunderstood the post. I though the change to preferences would apply the changes in the XMP sidecar to the exported jpeg. May still be an option somewhere????

I might have blindly tripped over a way to export with edits, but I'll bet lunde knows a better way...
lunde, thank you! :) PM sent.

Rat... I COULD (...& most likely) be wrong, but this sounds like Photoshop over Lightroom... BUT... LMAO ...What do I know? Concerning both applications, very little indeed! :D

It sounds like you are not converting the color space of the image to sRGB and trying to view it in a non color aware browser. It'll look flat and off color.

I'm sure Lunde will be able to help, but if not PM me.

That IS a part of the problems! Thank you, I'll try this out. :)

You could try my way. Take pic. Transfer to PC. Upload to Photobucket. Post on forum. It's Fast! It's Easy! No processing needed! :D

Jaxx,

Just post from work, like me. :D

I've been considering Lightroom, though I only have Photochop CS2 and I would probably need to upgrade that for it to work with lightroom, and that's just a lot of extra expenditure with Blade West coming around the bend!!

mikeymoto, you wrote:

Photoshop is not necessary for Lightroom to function. It is an independent application. Once Lightroom Version 1.1 was released, with improved sharpening controls, my use of Photoshop CS3 virtually ended.
