A good friend of mine is looking for a hawk. I steered him towards Ragnar, but it seems he wants a sturdy hawk that's also a functional pipe.

Anyone know where to look?

Thanks,

John

Uwinv most Pipe 'Hawks aren't all that sturdy, no throwing, but some are capable of hand to hand use.
I don't know anything about this place as I have it bookmarked for the boarding axes. The kit looks pretty good as do the others and not bad prices on them either. :D

from Atlanta Cutlery (made in India, I think) that I've had laying around for the better part of ten years. I've never tried to throw it but I have done a little light chopping. It doesn't hold much of an edge but it didn't break either. The pipe works but it leaves a funny taste.

If you want it, I'll give it to you. Your friend can use and abuse it and then decide if he wants to spend big bucks for a nice one. I won't be offended if you say no, but if you want it drop me a line with your address.

LOL, raggie!! :D :p

Interesting that it's in Walla Walla.....I have a knifemaker buddy - Bruce Bump - who not only made a hawk/axe, but put a barrel in one too!

 :D :p

I was going to suggest one of Ragnar's Viking axes, plus a bunch of rolling papers. Wasn't sure how that would go over, though.

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys. Might have time to surf 'em out tomorrow.

Frank, I'm not having any luck emailing you. I'd love to take you up on the very kind offer. My email is JRShirleyatgmail.com.

that mathclock/axe is beautiful. German? 1500?
Nice as hell.

Brass will chop fine, if you restrict it to meat. (like the meat on someone's face)
So will bronze, stone, copper and glass.

actually, DIJ...it's a 2005 piece. That said, Bruce is basing it on some designs from the past.

Oh I can see that it is new, I just meant the original piece it was based on. Most people have no idea how technically precise and beautifully made some of the Renaissance weapons were.
amazing pieces of art, not just effective weapons.
The Japanese like to think that their weapons were the only artistic creations, and they will tell you so, but it is not true.

Yall ever seen a wheelock pistol? It has a miniature grinder inside of it!
The grinder wheel is set spinning and it actually grinds sparks off of the flint to fire the weapon. It is an older design that the simpler but easier to make flintlock. (I think, dont quote me on dates)

It looks to me like Bruce Bump made the world's coolest bayonet. I need one of those on my Kalashnikov.
