On the news last night we learned that if you get bit by a rattle snake and desire to have the only treatment known, get ready to pay a huge bill. The cost at valley hospitals is between $21,000 and $26,000.  I think they will have to cut my leg off. And the insurance won't cover most of it. That just seems outrageous to me. Guess I will make sure I practice some really good snake dances before I go walking around the desert.

BTW, Munk, I have a little house lizard that is keeping my patio bugs at bay. He's so cute. Same color as the house with glowing red eyes.....that might have been because he was sitting by one of the red chili's...... but I'm glad he's here. I thought about putting up lizard wanted sign to see if more would show up, but they probably don't read   :p :D

What 'treatment' are they describing? I beleive most rattlesnake bites these days are treated with steroids and maybe some anti-venin (if it's deemed safe and appropriate). That cost sounds too high

Milkin rattlers for antivenom is dangerous work. Must pay good though.;)

That is the treatment and only one company does it so they get to make the price. I wonder how high it is in other parts of the country that have rattlers. Anyone out there know?

Night before last I found out that if I ever needed a chopper ride to the hospital that ran $40,000. That was for about a 100mile run. I'm thinking just let me die. It would take years to pay that bill off. It's been an interesting series on insurance and medical costs. Not sure what to think about it. It is costly though, and just because you have insurance doesn't guarantee anything.

You might be able to look up the articles at KPHO.com.

This news really makes me wonder about the TV show on late nights here on TLC or one of those type channels called Venom ER that takes place in Loma Linda Med Ctr in Loma Linda SoCal?
Hell they give some folks a crapload of that antivenom!!!!!
I wonder if it's the same outfit? Any way to check?

I used to drive by Loma Linda Med Ctr twice a day going to work and back when I lived in Yucaipa and worked in Ontario.
Since I could never find a Dr worth a damn in SoCal I often wondered about that place.

Cro-fab; or something like that; the anti venom. It is expensive. If you are bit by a rattlesnake you may be in no condition to direct your treatment and they WILL give you antivenom to save your life and you WILL need it in almost all cases of a wet bite. (bite where poisen is injected)

If a hospital gave me a bill I couldn't afford for ER treatment, I'd sure pay them off. Ten dollars a week.

I think there's actually law that steps in and takes care of this. One of my neighbors had a heart attack and air lift. He had to pay 6000 of a 60,000. We had a benefit dinner one night and that got him 5000.

But State laws and Federal laws; what do I know? Nothing.

I'm glad there's a friendly lizard living near you Gin. Lizards are good.
I like Lizards.
