I don't know if anybody in the US is familiar with the old British tradition of Guy Fawkes night - which is today, 5th November.

If so; please light a candle to the memory of Guy Fawkes, the only man in history who ever entered the Houses of Parliament with the intention of making life better for his fellow citizens.

In the eastern part of my country people usually celebrate this occasion with rather large bonfires.

:)

yes, happy Guy Fawkes day all! the perfect night to roast a guy ;)

If they had plastic explosives then he may well have succeeded...

Do they celebrate Guy Fawkes bigtime in the UK? I was in London from Sep 1999 to Jun 2000 but must have missed it.

Tom, trivia question, is this why John Lennon sang in his first solo album, (in a song called Remember, if I remember.) "Remember- the Fifth, of November." ?? Always wondered.

Who's John Lennon?

(Ducks, grabs coat & runs...)

He was a hero of mine... in my teens and early twenties when I still had heroes bigger than life. But actual heroes are people living down the street, friends I've known who showed guts when the chips were falling...you grow up and find there are extraordinary people everywhere. I don't give a rat's behind about hollywood actors....And Brittany Spears must have fallen to earth from somewhere..the other side of the asteroid which brought us Rap.

I always wondered if Lennon would have outgrown the silly leftism he'd become entrenched in. Probably not. He'd be speaking out against "King George" if he were still with us.

Hmmmm. And all this time I thought the subject was only about a fifth of good whisky and a girl, but I guess I was only dreaming as the fifth usually came after the girl and the two would never be in twine.:footinmou ;)

I've often thought in the past about the what ifs and couldabeens and am ever so grateful as what is came about.
I am content in spite of the physical and no more can a man ask for,
Except perhaps a fifth of good whisky to nuzzle and sip in the warmth of the smile of the one that is.:)

Yvsa, waxing philosophical.;)

I don't think I've ever mixed a good girl with a fifth of whiskey. Course, we may have to define good.
