Most scariest movies, just in time for Halloween.

My two personal favorites:

Jaws: The original movie built up suspense and scared tons of people from going into the water. The sequels ruined the idea.

Alien: Also very suspenseful. Edge of seat. The sequel Aliens was a very good movie, but more of a action film. From the third movie on just sucked.

Another good one for Halloween is the X-files episode about the 3 inbred brothers who live on a farm. Can't remember the name of it, but very good.

Most horror movies don't scare at all. Some of the better ones are The Fog and the first Halloween. Worst by far is The Blair Witch Project, was rooting for the Witch to hurry up and kill those 3 idiots by the time it was over.

Suspiria. Dario Argento director.

Here's a review that doesn't reveal the entire plot, but provides some idea of what the film's like.

Rental probably requires seeking out a movie-geek establishment, but very well worth the effort. Increadable soundtrack...bribe your buddy with the best audio set-up to let you watch it on his rig.

Wolvesclaws, That X-Files show was called "HOME" and yes it was very creepy...nasty!!!

How about "The Thing"

1. Night of the Living Dead
2. Bill Clinton sending our military overseas and telling us about it on TV.

A remember being right scared watching Salem's Lot (starring David Soul) as a kid. I did get the DVD recently and watched it again but didnt have the effect it did....

David Kronenberg's Existenz.
Shadow of the Vampire, with John Malkovich.
Sleepy Hollow, good action and suspense.
Brahm Stoker's Dracula, for good creepy cinematography.
John Carpenter's Ghosts of Mars - Proves you can do a good Mars movie on a low budget, and include ghosts.
The Cell - With Vincent Dinofrio(?)
Resident Evil - Updated zombie pic. Makes ya jump in parts, an Milla Jovovich is sooo Hot!
Blade II - An action horroe martial arts extravaganza.
Pumpkinhead

I'll agree with a Longrifle and FerrousWheel on some they listed:

The Shining--psychological thriller+ghosts excellent scary cinematography. Also, Stephen King made a TV version a few years ago that was Scarier than the original in some ways!

Jacob's Ladder: again, psychological thriller--they always scare me more than any monster/bad guy movies.

The Cell: psy. thriller. Some of the most bizzare and disturbing imagery I've seen in a LONG time!! Loved it.

Silence of the Lambs.

The omen.

Nightmare on Elm Street: back when I saw this I was a kid, and it scared the hell out of me. Probably wouldn't at all now but who cares?

John Carpenter's Jacob's Ladder
Yep!

There's many more but I can't think of them right now...

Good topic

I need to check out those other John Carpenter flicks! Didn't know there were so many.

In that case, Rob, I highly recommend these two of his...

Thing (1986) starring Kurt Russell, Wilford Brimley. an excellent remake and retell of the original...

Prince of darkness - Alice Cooper as a creepy street zombie! Fun premise and chilling...
