Hey all. I love to attend the Drag races at the Martin Michigan Drag Strip. They put on spectacular shows usually full of Jet powered vehicles and Nitro Methane cars. So saturday night I was looking up some Taz Rat pics and this picture kept popping up of a swamp rat car. After doing some reading I realized that this car popping up was one of Don Garlits cars. Who was spoken about saturday night when I was at the races. He is generally credited to switching the engine of Nitro Methane powered Rail cars to behind the driver after his tranny exploded severing half of his foot and causing him severe burns, Ironically this was Swamp Rat #13. He is not the first to experiment with the engine behind the drag racer but he seems to have made it famous. Anyway his cars he raced, and all 34 he built over his racing career, were named "Swamp Rat" all 34 of them! I thought this was cool and thought I would share it. Sorry for my long winded speech. Here is his site if you want to take a look at some of his beastly cars! Most info I must acredit to Don Garlits own website.

Yeap! Been a drag racing fan since I was a toddler. Swamp Rat meant something way before the home we call the swamp. :D :D :D

Thanks for the memories! Gene Snow came to my little home town back when I was a whelp, Changed my life!!! I even bought the model at that store that sponsored the show. Funny thing, One of my early memories is seeing my first jet powered drag racer by a little known company at the time Armorall. :p
