We got more humans than lions, AND they fight more fairly. I wanted a different ending.

Guess that was one that they valiumed up to release to hunt, It seemed used to people,Probably an old circus one, They probably even pulled its teeth for the great white hunter!

I wonder what the hunter tourists Trophy story is! I shot at it at 50 ft & missed cos I didnt have shotgun full of bird shot, & well it ran up kicked the gun out of my hand & ran of, the pros had riddled it by then & i put another bullet in as it kicked about on the ground.

Great white hunter,Pah!

Real hunting aint like that!

Saw this on THR.
The first shot was a good one. African game sometimes just don't know when they're dead.
Evidently, this was a problem lion (not saying that to sway whether or not he should have been shot, just explaing acclimation to humans).

Fair enough John, I hope that is how it was, I just know they do release druged up old circus & zoo ones for to paying hunt tourists to kill & assumed thats what this was!

I notice the video was put by A couple of hunt tourism firms though.

Guess I am a cynic!

Cheers,
Spiral

i was hoping the lion would win. makes you respect the masai who had to kill one with a spear.

my dog heard the lion roar & has been looking around the house for the last 5 minutes for the puddy-tat.

African game hunting is like my ultimate dream, but something I think i'd probably end up chickening out on. as has been said, stupid things don't know when to die. :)

I always admire bravery & accept that sometimes bravery & stupidity are hard to differentiate, But that looked like a turkey shoot that went wrong!

More akin to a firing squad!

I would be prepared to hunt big game but only if I had to pit my wits & bravery against it.

No backup! Thats when a trophy would be worth while! Probably would just go for rhino myself.

Would look at a lion & think why do I want to kill that?

Id look at a rhino & think S**t I better kill that!

yeah, I agree, doubt I'd go after lion. Cape buffalo, Rhino, hippo, elephant(and this is all assuming that they were massively reproducing and threateniung to take over the continent). Hate to think of a world without these animals, and way some people are trying, that might happen, though I hope not, but going after game like this would be my ultimate dream.

Found a place selling a 4 bore today, which would even be my dream gun for it, but it's only a single, not a double, and only rated for the pitiful charge of ~382 grains(14 drams) rather than the full 450 or so which i believe what a full 4 bore is supposed to be. Is full 1"+ bore though

Well, I've thought for a long time that I probably wouldn't hunt elephant except in self-defense, but in some areas, they're evidently becoming a problem.

Killing a Cape Buff, on the other hand- wow! An herbivore (I hunt herbivores yearly) that could mix me into an acre of ground if I don't do my part, or just get unlucky.

This is Africa. Hunting pumps badly needed funds into the economy, and lets Africans get money other ways than through poaching- which would kill off these species entirely.

Blah, if it was a problem lion it should be killed.

Relocating it would probably give it more trouble, since the lions already in the area will kick it's ass, or it'll take over a pride and kill all of the cubs...

The titles such as "king of beasts" and sense of nobility associated with lions is BS and Disney like. Sure have respect for it but lions aren't more special or any more important than other animals.

That "hunt" did seemed "canned" though. I can clearly see the fence... I don't like this...
