I just traded one of my herd. It was a serrated SMOG Warden for a Randall 8 Trout and Bird, both brand new. I know, I know, no bashing please. I have never owned a Randall and figured what the heck. What do you guys think about the trade. Now I have to get me another SMOG Warden! I miss it already. No comparison as far as ruggedness goes, but something different for the collection.

Ummm...you traded a SMOG for a what now...???

I'd be having regrets, too! :p;)

:D:D ;)

Look on the bright side, you will now appreciate your other SMOG warden even more.

Just beat the piss out of that Randall like you would that SMOG warden.

Then post pics.

Only after a good beating can you tell if you made a good trade. :D;)

The Randall will definately not take a Busse beating, that's for sure, a cool knife though.

There's only one way to find out, besides, what is a lifetime warrenty good for in you're not going to use it?:D

highway, I can't comment on the value of your trade, that is a personal call. I will congratulate you on getting a fine knife in the deal.

No, it's not a Busse, its a RANDALL!

No disrespect intended, as this is the Busse forum, but Bo Randall, Rudy Ruana, William Scagel, John Ek, Ralph Bone and others like them began the custom knife movement before most of us were born.

Again, no offense intended, but Jerry Busse and all the others that have come after owe a debt to the men who set the stage.

I had wanted a Randall for over 40 years. It was on my bucket list 30 years before that term even existed (along with a Browning Hi-Power, a Land Rover, and a Rolex) and my son finally made my list complete last year when he bought me a new Randall Model 1 for my birthday.

I treasure that knife because it was a gift from my sone and because it is a fine example of the knifemaker's art.

If this gets me booed off the forum, so be it!

Michael

You made a great trade... you came out better money wise.

You can get another SMOG wardern for around $275. You counldn't have got the Randall for that.

Now go find you another SMOG warden:thumbup:

No, we don't do that, we respect most makes and models of knives that are high quality. That's a good story and if if my son gave me that knife, I would love that model 1 also.
As for as warranty, the Randalls are supposed to have a great warranty but I have heard a few people had a few stumbles along the way when they tried to get their knife repaired. And if you were going to compare the warranty to a Busse, I don't think that you can compare the two. I am sure Randall doesn't warranty stupidity or curiosity, but Jerry does. I don't know why or how he does, but if someone broke their Busse prying a car door open to try to save someone, he sends you a new one. If you are curious and want to see if you can chop a huge chain if you had to. Because you were wondering if you were chained to a tree and all you had was your Busse, well, he takes it backs and fixed that for you. If you break the tip doing whatever, he still takes it back and fixed that.

+1. That was my exact thought. You won.

Well, so far the Randall is sitting in my sock drawer away from my kids!! We'll see, does seem like a nice knife, AG Russell has them for $490.00, I guess I did ok on the trade.
