My mom took me to home depot for Christmas. I got a shovel, a pickaxe and this nifty splitting maul.
I've been working my arms individually, exclusively with my with my Busse/kin (now that I think about it) one hand choppers, since I took my Acura for a flight off the mountain in April, but I haven't felt comfortable enough to use a two handed tool. After seeing the video of the guy with the splitting maul, I set the goal of being able to use two handed tools by Christmas and when my mom asked if I wanted anything, the maul was at the top of my list.
I used it the other day on rounds that were way too long and to my surprise it did rather well. I'm going to fuel up real quick (got pancake and sausage on a stick baking now) then head out and do a little more splitting. I'll need a chainsaw soon to cut the rounds that are already here down to size and there's also plenty of logs around here that I can have at, so I won't run out for a while.
I need to look into making youtube videos...
I figured out why that guy in the video uses the chain/bungee cord on the round, if you don't it all goes flying off! Gimme a break, I haven't split wood in years lol It's cheap and I couldn't even find any information on it other than it's fiberglass and "steel" so at least they didn't just say "metal" I guess. It was the only one they had and she literally said she'd buy me another one when this one breaks (I broke a lot of tools as a boy/teenager) but I think I'll look into a higher end model and purchase it for myself.
