OT: That still, small, voice

Only time we get in trouble is when we don't listen to it. I'm out in the yard, and something tells me I need to go call my mom. Last I talked to mom, everything was fine, so I had no reason to be worried, and no explanation why I had such a strong urge to call her. Still, I've learned to pay attention to my "instincts", so to the phone I go. As it turns out, today is my mother and father's 49th wedding anniversary. Shamefully, I had completely forgotten, and if it hadn't been for that little voice in the back of my mind urging me to phone, I'd of completely missed out on their special day.
God watches our for fools and children, I occasionally fall in that first category.

I don't know if I'd call it God, god or gawwwwd, (I'm from the South, y'all) but I hear the voice sometimes.

Sometimes, I even listen. When I do, I'm always happy I did.

Sarge,
If He's got time to bug you about you're parent's anniversary, with all the devil's work that's going on in the world that he seems to be ignoring... I dunno.
Perhaps there is another explanation. Like, perhaps the date was stuck in your memory somewhere that you weren't aware of.
Excuse me if I sound atheistic, but I'm reading Carl Sagan's A Demon Haunted World, Science as a Candle in the Dark. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...f=sr_1_1/104-1391544-1089504?v=glance&s=books

Anyway, thanks for the post. It certainly got me thinking. You often do that...and thanks. :D Glad yer back. You are a valuable voice in the forum.

Kind of torn... I don't know if it's God or not, but it's there. I'm another one that gets into trouble when I don't listen to it.

But, it's not necessarily a morality thing. People I know that fracture an occasional law and get away with all tell me essentially the same thing: "Once I get that feeling, I drop whatever I'm doing and go - finished or not/money or not. No 'couple more seconds' for anything." It's one of their golden rules like, "Planning and/or committing jobs doesn't mix with alcohol and/or drugs."

I'm well known in the first category. They even bought me a couch.

At one time I really liked Sagan, but the more I find out about the man, the less I admire him... Apparently, a lot of other astronomers privately consider him to be a 'hack'. I still agree with him on a lot of things, but he is one of the scientists that beleave that it is ok ot lie about the facts if it is for a good cause...
Even after Sagan found out that the calculations that led to the idea of a 'nuclear winter' were wrong, he still promoted the idea because he thought that a nuclear disarmament was a good idea.

I got to give khudo's to any forum where a thread with this title would not only be readily accepted, but taken as a matter of course.

The best part of the still small voice is since it is so unexlainable by science it comforts one to know there may be eEernity. (the 'voice' is able to offer information that cannot be gathered through the traditional five senses. We 'suppose' or project that there is some part of us that interacts with time- forever.)

The still small voice that can overpower a room of shouting. I have been thankful many times when I heeded it and regretful many times when I didn't. I don't know it's origin, but it is an underused tool in our society.

munk,

I have no need for or hope of eternity. I'm just looking forward to a (hopefully) well-earned rest, a dark, quiet, and peaceful eternal sleep. May it be said of me:

Gladly did he live, and gladly die,
And he laid him down with a will.

Sarge?

You now have an entire year to plan the 50th wedding celebration. Nice work.

Yup, going to have to put on the dog and kill a few chickens for that party. Fifty years of marriage is a fine testament to true love. :)
