There was a day I could hook stereo's together. Tape deck, record player, CD player, pre amp, whatever. So I had some hope as electronics became more sophisticated I would too. Hasn't happened. I see some folks can stay on the learning curve, like Yvsa, but frankly, most computers and TV systems just annoy me today.
Case in Point: our JVC stopped working- the 'good one' my old Dad, the Engineer swore by. So we went to my wifes bedroom TV- a little cheap magnavox. Don't ask me how big the picture is- it aint.
We were told at the time that High Definition was due in five years, and old sets would be phased out. Make no mistake about this- the HD wave was due many years ago, and I see is still not here. But we waited and waited before buying the 'great set', so it would be compatable with HD. Still no great set.
Our TV remote stopped working- it could only select channels, no volume, or any thing fancy. So I used the TV remote for volume.
I guess I should say some time in the last ten years my DNA that used to be able to program VCR's failed. I gave up, gave up taping, and was happy if we could 'play'.
The TV remote ate it- broke. Too many little feet running around here.
The VCR broke- too many objects thrust into the cassette bay by little hands and inquiring minds.
WE got a new cheap VCR and DVD player. I ordered a new remote from PEgasus. Well, the VCR/DVD does not work; no program screen ever arrives on the TV. The manual for the new remote is missing. ANd 4 phone calls to Direct TV has not solved the problem. Monday I'll call the manufacturer of the DVD and see what they say. I'll also call whatever is left of Pegasus and try to either get the remote to program the new machine or get a refund.
I'm tired. I spent 5 hours on this today, and at the end I wanted to kill.
However, both remotes now can talk to the TV and even increase the volume.
The last gal at Direct could not help me at all- but she did flirt with me. This 48 year old will take that in lieu of full membership in the Soft ware Age. I also learned today, that my 'unique' voice, (described as such by friends for years) sounds just like the Drummer's for Striker, the big Christian Rock Band.
But there will be no movies this weekend.
