After the tomahawks in the military thread I decided to get one. I decided on 2hawks but he has a long waiting list, he only makes four or so a month. ATC seems expensive and RMJ isn't taking orders this year. Now I'm looking at this page of Ragweed Forge: http://www.ragweedforge.com/ThrowingCatalog.html Can anyone vouch for the quality of any of these models? I also noticed the Cold Steel hawks which, if nothing else, are inexpensive. Handle replacements can be bought for them so that's another plus. I'm willing to spend about $150 on hawks with similar length and weight to my WW2 (18in and 27ounce). I would like something that can do some work but I'll probably throw it more than anything else. What do you guys think?

I like my ATC Roger's Rangers spike hawk a lot. Great fit & finish, excellent balance, feel, and sturdiness to it. It has a great rough finish has some soul to it. I'm hoping to get a custom from them someday. I got my ATC hawk from knifecenter for $137 shipped; it's pricey compared to the deals we get here, but it's not bad for a nice piece of workmnanship with a lifetime warranty.
I like Cold Steel, but I wouldn't buy their Vietnam hawk simply because it's a ripoff of Peter LaGana's design that ATC began making with his blessing before he died.
Andy Prisco runs ATC, and he is a great guy. He'll answer any questions you have on the ATC forum here on bladeforums.

I gave my son a ATC Vietnam Tactical along with an HI khuk at his graduation from Ranger school. Man, was he the big dog with those two outstanding tools. It's obvious that he really favors the khuk, though. Point of the story; there was a mixup in the shipping and the tomahawk had not been delievered to the hotel (it was the hotel's fault) in Columbus where we were staying. I made a phone call to the company and the next morning at 7am knocking on my door was ex Army Ranger Justin Gringrich (spelling?), one of the owners of ATC with the tomahawk and sheaths in hand. Sounds like the kind of service you get from UB, doesn't it? Well, Justin gave me the low down on the tool and even wanted to take me out in the parking lot to show me how well it throws. I was a little too nervous to go that far, so I begged off.

Tell you what, service--good service--plays an important part in who I do business with. With what I know, I would be hard pressed to use another tomahawk company other than ATC.

There are so many options for tomahawks out there...any type of specific hawk your looking for? here are a few other places to check out...

The Lonnie hanson tomahawk is awesome, but I prefer the hammer pole version.

If I had to use one in combat, I would definitely go with the ATC NG Ranger or Vietnam Hawk.

For the money I don't know how you beat some of the Ragweed Hawks. The heavier handled Slasinski Hawks throw well. I have a Hammer Hawk and the Spike Hawk and they feel close the the same. As far as Cold Steel goes the best hawk the made was the Plainsman Hawk. The closest you can get to it now is the Rifleman and cut that stupid hammer head off and grind the thing flat on the rear. Now you have a good throwing hawk with a blade that will cut a bit of wood at the camp site.
The newest thing that CS has is the Trail Hawk and it isn't a bad tool but you have to get used to the narrow blade. Mine is just 2.25" which would have made a good trail marking hawk in the old days. It will let you break up fire wood too. I kind of like the one I have. :)

"as I bet Sarge will, too"

Aye, heartily, and without hesitation. Ragnar, like Uncle Bill, is one of the good guys. He sells quality merchandise at fair prices, and he's very helpful if you have questions about any of his products. Check out his knives and knifemaking supplies while you're there. www.ragweedforge.com
