American Tomahawk Company...carried by hundreds of Rangers, Special Forces, etc.

Crazy Crow has some well made, hand forged 'Hawks that won't cost you an arm an a leg and a left, well we'll leave it at that.;)
They aren't necessarily pretty, but they are workers and that's the bottom line for me.
And to top it all off they stand behind their products. I have a Crazy Crow 'Hawk that has a forge line, like some khuks do, and mentioned it to one of the guys from Crazy Crow at our annual powwow one year. There was no hesitation when he said, "Bring it in and we will swap it out for a perfect one."
I still have the same one, like the khuks, the forge line ain't goin' no where.:D
I also like it that they're traditional in all sense of the word and that you can get replacement handles from CC at a reasonable price. I don't throw mine anymore so haven't needed to replace any handles.:D

What models do you have Yvsa? I'm thinking that Revolutionary Pole hawk would be a good camper and a Custom or Heart Hawk for throwing.

Not my area, but:
Others here have recommended Ragweed and its owner as top notch.
I was very pleased with the one order I made.
Call & he'll tell you what's best for what you want.
His descriptions are probably a good guide for most.

I bought: LadyHawk and Kinnokniv

I mention the Viking knife because it's my favorite little knife.
It's hidden on: http://www.ragweedforge.com/cat-misc.html
I bought the larger & it fits my hand fine,
but the smaller one would likely need a small hand.
Very very sharp.
The hawk was tested (nice) but never really used, yet.
The khuks seem to get pulled out first.

I have the custom 'Hawk, plain and unadorned. You've made some good choices there and I think you will be entirely happy with them.
The Pole 'Hawk IS best for an all around camp tool IMO.
If I had of went ahead and designed a 'Hawk for H.I. I had finally decided that's what it would be as it's the most useful. Betcha find yourself throwing it as well.:p ;)

Crazy Crow also sells some dayumed good knife blanks, but you have to know what you're getting with them as some are Pakistani POS's. Not CC's fault as they cater to the supply and demand. They also sell the very high end laminated Norwegian style blades at excellent prices methinks.:D
I haven't tried their Solingen stuff, but I'm betting it's good as well, perhaps even the stainless although I would only buy carbon steel in these instances.;)

I've been a customer of CC's for years and have never gotten burned on anything I ordered from them. Can't say anything better than that about anyone.:)

The CC hawks are made with iron heads, is that a problem? I imagine that's how they used to be but wouldn't the iron still be at a disadvantage compared to steel? Also, is that Revolutionary Poll hawk a decent thrower?

Skeletor I have never had any problems with mine even with the forge line. Mallable and forgeable iron is pretty tough stuff, not as good as carbon steel perhaps, but does have its advantages just because it is so tough.
The Pole 'Hawk may or may not be a good thrower, but in my past experiences I learned that almost anything light enough to get to the target could be thrown.:D
When I was a young man I did a lot of throwing, enough that I had really heavy callouses from cuts by throwing holding the blade instead of the handle.
Balance also doesn't mean anything when it comes to throwing, you just have to know the distance each blade, hatchet or 'Hawk will stick at; you have to keep changing the distance. Properly balanced blades of very similar weight will all stick at the same distance and so is used by professionals.
Dean has said you can't go wrong with Ragweed and I agree with him as well. They make some good product, just depends on what you wanna pay.:)

I highly recommend H&B Forge hawks, they're top notch in my book. I currently own 2 H&B Forge hawks and one Cold Steel hawk. The CS product doesn't even compare to the H&B forge hawk. I've yet to have one of my H&B hawk handles come loose while I have a hell of a time keeping my CS head on the handle. The H&B hawk can also take a razor edge and hold it, while I still can't get a good edge on my CS hawk, the head on the CS also seems very soft. H&B forge are also great people to deal with and you can order a custom hawk if you talk to Will Barber from H&B.

Great, recommendations for all three! Looks like I'll have to start a Hawk collection to keep the Khuks company. I'm thinking I may start with the Shawnee for H&B, that way I can get a nearly identical Hawk + hammer poll to go along with it later on.

I have the newer Trail Hawk and a Plainsman Hawk from CS that they do not make anymore. It seems to be tempered pretty well as is the Trail Hawk. The other hawks I have read write ups on and it would appear the the quality control has gone to pot for the most part concerning the Hawks. The two that I have from Ragweed are Slasinski steel hawks. The Spike Hawk and the Hammer Hawk. I have thrown both and they seem very easy to stick in the target. They are light enough to be very fast if needed in a fight.

I am sure that either of the other two places you referred to are just as good. If Yvsa vouches for a hawk maker you can bet that the products are most likely very good also. I don't recall ever hearing of any one on this forum giving bad advise to anyone. I would say that if a company is willing to put a life time Guarantee on the products you can be pretty sure that things are probably very much on the up and up.:)

We talked about this down in Austin. And one of these from Ragweed along with a Bilton and a "New Model" and a 12" AK are on my short list.

Just waiting for another loan.

I know this has been discussed before, but what do yall think the best fighting 'hawk is?

Kinda like the Cherokee Rose, if you had it for only that one purpose what would the style be?

BTW, this weekend I am determined to grind down my CS Vietnam tomahawk so that a.) I can put an actual edge on it and not the wide blunt thing that is called an edge
and b.) so that it will accept an actual tomahawk handle and not a western Hammer style handle.
It will take me time, but I dont have any money, so all I have to do is study and do that in my spare time. :D

A Double Bit model like my Uncle Bud had for his piece when he was in the Oklahoma Penetentiary down at McAlester Oklhoma for murder.
His was hurriedly made from a horsehoe rasp forge welded together at both ends.
The teeth in the center where the handle fits were barely, if at all, hammered down.
I had the privilige of making a new handle for it a few years back, made it longer than the original because it didn't need to be carried with the handle shoved down the inside of the pants anymore. :p ;) :D
It is fast, light, razor sharp and with the double edges very formidable.
I've only seen one real double bit ndn 'hawk!!!! And I just got a passing look at it, not nearly long enough to come away with any real information about it, but have often wondered why there weren't many more of them.
It was a bit larger than my Uncle Bud's and a bit smaller than mine.:)

Kinda like this???

Kinda sorta. Mine has as much "ear" above the 'hawk as it does the bottom and is more pronounced than my Uncle Bud's, but that would do in a pinch.:)
