Just wondering if we could get a thread going here that takes a bit of info that happens to be spread all over, and compile it here.

What tool are you using to strike your ferro rod, other than the spine of your knife, and how are you incorporating it into your sheath? I am sure there are 1000 variations I have never dreamed of. So let's see them!

Right now mine are all separate, so no magic pics to share, and I'm cheating with a lighter.... call me pragmatic. If I am going to carry something in my pocket, might as well be a lighter. I use a vintage zippo. Still zippo insert, I figure if it runs out of fuel, I always have the cotton. Where as if I use a modern insert, when it runs out of get smashed, it's useless. But if I could carry it on a sheath, not make it 200lbs and have everything together, that would be ideal. I'm not into using the spine all the time.

Thanks!!

A short piece of hacksaw blade. Also useful for cutting things! :)
I keep it in my wallet.

Piggybacked sak alox on the 4.7 or 5.1 sheath and use the leather reamer as a spark striker.

Just the tool that came with my ferro rods. I have them attached via a length of 550 paracord long enough to allow striking. This way I have some extra cordage if needed as well.

King Cole got a hook up from BHK and got some snazzy strikers/Nutella spreaders that he featured in another thread.

I have a Polystriker XL that has its own striker. I also like having a Bic on me. Maybe that's cheating or being lazy, but I like them.

I LOVE Zippos!!!!! I just wish they held their fluid longer.

Hell no that's not cheating. Forget about playing fair. I'd break out five gallons of diesel if I could snap my fingers and make it appear :D

As for a striker, I use the leather punch on my Pioneer like Psybull mentioned, except I don't have it attached to my sheath, but rather clipped in a front pocket. The only thing I can think of that would be better is if there were an opposited-handed version so that I could strike while holding the SAK in my right hand. I think it would work perfect for a lefty as is.

Psybull & HK,

Do you guys prefer the reamer & punch, or the reamer punch & sewing awl. I wonder which would be better. Say I was going to buy a SAK primarily for this function, which would I rather have?

Thank you all for the answers so far. Anyone have pics??

This is the one I use. It's on an Alox Pioneer, my preferred edc, and the only one I've tried on a SAK.

Pretty sure that one came from knifekits. It is really stout, all my efforts to destroy it have failed!! :D

That is the leather awl/reamer, same as what I use but in the farmer alox model. The belt clip will work in a pinch as well to piggyback the sak.

LOL I assume you tapped the holes yourself?

Yep, I did two. One I totally disassembled, drilled and tapped the holes (super easy to do that when it's apart) and then reassembled and pinned it back together. The Pioneer took 2mm and 3mm pins and I just peened the heads over with a ball peen hammer. The other one I drilled pilot holes, did NOT tap, and worked the screws in. I locktited the screws on both knives. I really thought the second knife would not hold up, but I'm still using both of them and they have held up well. The hardest part of the whole thing was trying to keep from peening the pins too tight.....tap and check, tap and check!

So I wonder if anyone makes a kydex attachment that is formed for a SAK like the one king cole got from bhk for the strikers?

Psybull, I really like the thought behind your setup(s)

Halestorm is always saying "I can make anything you want". You should email that SoB :D

Oh ya, Ronnie could do it for sure. I guess I was just wondering out loud if anyone had seen something like that already for the saks.

"alox kydex" gets a number of hits for your run-of-the-mill kydex SAK holster, easy enough to mount one on a kydex knife sheath. There's also leather sheaths that could be clipped to a kydex plate or the G-clip like Psybull does with his bare SAK.

I'm good with a pocket-clip
