I have a friend who is unconscious in the hospital and nobody knows how to find his family.
We know his name and that he was in the Marines. Can the USMC help?
If so, to whom should I speak ?
Thanks

If the friend is in Japan, I'd start with the US Consulate...I think they still have responsibilities for Americans overseas. There may also be info on his SOFA card if he has one. If he's stateside, the local PD knows what to do.

Danny,

Try the US Red Cross, they may still have records of him. If he was recently discharged or is retired they should still have his info on hand. If you have his SSN it will be much easier.

Like Nasty said the U.S. Consulate can look him up. Or maybe a call to the FBI in Japan.

He was in vietnam and central america and retired in the early 80's. He is in a hospital in Texas...

Try the Red Cross, they're the first line the military uses to contact family members in the event of an emergency.

If you reach a point where your out of ideas and still haven't foudn them, shoot me an email Danny, pretty sure it's in my profile. But have some resources through work, that I'd rather not use if you find them some other way, but if you need help, will do it.

And no, nothing really nifty, not trying to sound mysterious. :) Just some of the stuff we use for skip tracing to find debtors, I'd just rather not use work resources for personal stuff if it can be avoided. :)

Will definitely be willing to stretch that rule for this situation though if you end up needing the help DiJ

Well, he passed away about an hour ago.
I guess it doesnt really matter now. thanks for your efforts.
Damn, there's just no guarantees.

Sorry to hear that Danny. Condolensces go to you, and to his family, wherever they are.

If you can, might let local VFW chapter know, as they may be able to help find the family at least to let them know what happened.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend, Danny.

as you say- no guarentees.

munk
