For those of us that don't sleep well or much and can't hunt right then, and don't feel like grinding......
Last night I got into the junk box and built my version of a Scout Rifle.
It needed the following:
1. very light (under 5#) so I could carry it on my mountain bike.
2.Powerful enough for any emergency.
3.Accurate to 200 yards.
4.Cost nothing to build.
I came up with this.
308 Winchester built on a 93 Mauser (I've heard all the safety warnings but have 3 and have fired a thousand or so full house rounds)
An old benchrest aluminum stock that I re-milled to accept the 93.
A home milled scout mount to replace the rear sight.
A modified Mauser trigger with adjustable let off and travel.
Red dot scope picked up in a trade at some point in time. (not on yet)
I shortened the barrel to 16.5" and cut an 11 degree crown on it.
I added mounts on the stock to accept a tac light and laser if so desired and threaded holes under the shelf for a bi/tripod.
