Maybe hopeless, but I'm giving this a try.

I'm looking for a children's toy that I don't know the name of.

The toy consists of two equal lengths of cord, equipped with easy to grasp handles on all the ends. Both strands of cord are threaded through an included lightweight object, and two children grasp the handles and stretch to cords taunt between them. They take turns quickly spreading the handles apart, causing the object on the cord to quickly travel back and forth between them, sorta like playing catch.

Anybody ever seen one of these? I'm thinking it might be good to get for my nieces--some exercise, play together, etc. And I think it's also less likely to get thrown over the fence, or wind up on the roof.:) Unless they hate it of course...

I know what you're talking about, but I have no idea what it's called either. Looking up "zooming football thing wire with handles for two people" on Google didn't help much......;)

I have seen and played with one of those years ago ...just don't remember what they called it :( You'll probably have to make your own though. Or perhaps you could find one at a small local crafts & novelties type store. Because these days most of the big toy manufacturers are more paranoid of children's strangulation and law suits than the manufacturers of work ladders are. I think it's a cool idea, just going to be tough to find.

a few names come to mind...

button on a string

wheel on a string

spinner on a string

I seem to remember that you could paint a circle in alternating pie-sliced colors and spin it with the string to get a different color...ie. yellow & blue = green

Just have to have two holes and they both have to be off center of the object. Then just oscillate your pulling and it will spin one way and then the other.

Definitely State Fair or Dollar Store material...

That's the toy I thought of at first.

will get you to the catagory. Scroll down about and
press the "More Movers..." button to advance.
Repeat about 10 times to get to item number 64.
This is a fancy version of what you describe.

The one he's asking about requires two people,
Some time or another I recall seeing it advertised on TV.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Google.......Google......Google.......Google......Google.......
Aha! "toy two pull apart cord ball"
Got it

Wow!!

Good searching ddean!! Thanks!!

Now I'm off to see if they're still made...Now that I know what to look for.

Likely not, as Senor Cat has pointed out--probably banished to wherever they keep the plastic molding toys, the wood-burning sets, the air-blaster guns, and all the rest. Maybe the Zoom Ball is still made, though, I've heard it recommended for kids that need exercise for physical therapy or coordination development.

Does one need a prescription to purchase this toy?

I was thinking that I might have to try and make one, but getting the really low friction might not be so easy.

Forgot about the spinnie things, thanks, Pen.

Sheesh, maybe I'll just have to get them something useless and approved suit-free. A Nerf-bicycle?

The site that had the picture was selling them...$6 each

Thanks, I followed the pix to the site.

$6 each...LOL, I remember when toys like that advertised on TeeVee were considered "too expensive for what they are" by my parents. Now look at the shite they sell for $40-50.

Seems the manufacturer handles the liability by recommending it for children nearly too old to be interested in it...eight and up. Of course, once you're an adult, it's interesting again.:)

Some good stuff there, it's a bit hard to find the non-board, non-role-playing stuff though...Click the genre/format links once you find something good.

Bookmarked--finding decent toys can be a real b*tch nowadays.

Can't resist posting another old cheapie-but-goodie--the Whizmo!!:

Babble, babble....

Hi !!

That Particular toy (actualy not a toy but very fun to play with) is call Tha " GOING "was very popular in the mid 70 for beach goers.

While we're on the subject of toys does anyone know about a toy that has several wooden or plastic blocks hooked together with a band of material? You hold it upright and one of the blocks click clacks down the band without coming off. You turn it over and it does it again.
One of our daughters has one of these made outta wood and two of our younger grandkids are fascinated with it. I would like to get them a couple if anyone can find out where to get it.
It may be called a clickity clack or a click clack?

Each generation.........

I say the same thing to my daughter almost daily it seems.

Fortunately she still likes to shop in the
"$1 buys anything in the store" type shop.

I do too, some of the surplus items are very handy if
you come by them so cheaply.

It didn't ever occur to you that this forum is mostly devoted to magical and marvelous toys, anyway?
