OT - what's up with Surefire?

I tried buying a G2 from a couple on-line distributors, but none have any in stock, and some even say that can't get product from Surefire these days.

So, I went to Surefire's web site, and tried ordering from there. I tried calling their 800 number first to ask about availability, but when I dialed the number (tried twice), the number was flagged as not operable. So I'm not going to trust ordering online without talking to someone first.

Anyone know or hear anything about what's going on with them?

AFAIK Surefire will no longer be selling to online dealers. They will be selling to brick and mortor stores but want to keep the only online sales to themselves.

I was just about to get a 6p but am seriously reconsidering...

Hmm, so they are trying to keep the prices higher? I have several G2s, was thinking of adding to that. Might still, if the guys at the gun shows can still get lights.

That's a shame. I guess it's good for the brick and mortor guys, but bad for those of us who don't have a Surefire dealer nearby. Trying to find a dealer locator on their site, but I can only find an International locator with no option for the US.

I read that BM stores will still be able to have an online catalog, but you need to make it a order over the phone/fax. Theres been some talk about this on CPF.

Well, I just read a couple threads on CPF, and apparently the rumors are true: SF is going to sell only through its own website and to brick-and-mortar stores, no more internet sales.

It seems however, that the reason for this is because they simply cannot keep up with their contract demands, hence the decision to reduce consumer sales.

It actually is a very smart business move, as a contract is guaranteed money.

If you produce products and retailers stick them on their shelves, there is very obviously no guarantee at all that the product will sell.

Guys, check out the Luxeon Star super bright LED lights available at

www.elektrolumens.com

Wayne builds these himself & is at the bleeding edge of the technology. These lights come in 1 Watt, 3 Watt , 5 Watt, & 9 Watt.
They use commonly available AA , C , & D cell alkaline, or rechargeable batteries & have run time of anywhere from 8 to 24 hours Full Brightness & much longer after that at lower brightness.
The 1 Watt Blaster Jr. that I have runs for 8 hours Full Bright & is as bright as a 2 D cell halogen light. It runs on 3 AA's.

I've ordered the FT-3C & it is 3 Watts & runs for 12 hours Full Bright on 3 C Cells.
Great throw, good side spillage so you can see up close. The build quality is excellent & they're Hard Anodized Grade II. O rings for seals at both ends. Really top notch stuff at great prices..

that's not good at all. my local B&M dealer is terribly expensive. I really don't want to pay MSRP!

Two of the gun shops in my area now carry Surefire lights. Their prices on lights are'nt bad. I have bought my lights from them and my batterys directly from Surefire. Maybe you could talk to your local shop about carrying them. When I bought my last light(an e2e) the guy at the counter said they were selling really well.:)
